Autolevel went goofy

We have a hydraulic six point leveling system. Somehow, it loses its ability to remember what level is. I can reset it from the control panel and it will remember level. Once the trailer is towed it forgets. It acts as though the sensor may have loosened and moving around. Currently we are manual leveling.

So, where might I find the sensor? I haven't been above the coroplast behind the axles yet so I'm guessing up there.

The rear sensor is behind the axles. The front one is in the battery compartment.

Ours went wacky a few years ago, like you would level manually just fine. Had Lippert look at it when at our SOB Rally and ended up being the Rear Sensor above the axles.

Remote rear sensor mounted up above the last axle under the coroplast.. it will be in the center of that last axle mounted on a small plate

Check the sensor for looseness and I’d also reseat the plug connection underneath

Thanks all! We'll be home today and can start some troubleshooting. I'll follow up when fixed.

Before I would jump right for that remote rear sensor under the coroplast I would remove the control panel and reseat the one connection on the circuit board and locate the front fwd control module and reseat those plugs as well

I would then level the RV manually and do a zero point calibration and observe how the system works...

Also.. if your voltage drops below 12 volts while the level up is operating you will incur all sorts of weird issues.. check for battery to frame ground connection and make sure the surface of the ground connection is clean as well as the connections to the dual polarity solenoid

Thanks ChuckS. That sounds like the place to start.

What procedure are you using to reset the autolevel point?

The reset process is pretty simple for the 6 point hydraulic system. The hardest part is accurately counting the 10 depressions of the Front and Back buttons (9 or 11 pushes don't hack it). In the Files Sub-forum is the LCI - Level-Up Users Manual. https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...?do=file&id=62
Page 9 will tell you all you need to know.

The basic steps are:
1. Manually run all leveling jacks and landing gear to level the 5th Wheel.
A. This is best achieved by placing a level in the center of the 5th Wheel and leveling it both front-toback
and then side-to-side.
B. See Basic Jack Operation section for instructions on how to manually operate the system.
2. After the 5th Wheel has been leveled, turn off the touchpad.
3. With the touchpad off, press and release the FRONT button ten times and then press and release the REAR button ten times.
4. The touchpad will flash and beep, then the LCD screen will read "ZERO POINT CALIBRATION ENTER to set

Update on the fix.

Thanks chuckS for the detail work on the photos. I did work all the connctions to no avail. I did learn a bit about the wiring and the system overall. As stated, the rear sensor was in the middle just aft of the spare tire bracket. I cut a three sided flap in the coroplast right under it. The sensor was installed with self tapping screws through a flat bracket into the plastic sensor housing. It was loose. Did that cause the sensor to vibrate to the point of breaking? I don't know but the new sensor is bolted firmly with self locking nuts and bolts. After a reset of the level calibration, problem solved.

Thanks all for the input!

Glad you now have a properly functioning six point hyd level up system... the fifth wheel frame takes a pounding going down the road so with that sensor being loose it beat the heck out of it...

Now that you have new sensor in and good zero point reset all should be fine... My current system is now going on 9 years old and I have never had any failures ... except the lousy hyd lines they use... I have replaced a few of those with quality 1 wire hyd hose and new JIC37 fittings from NAPA
