More pet food recalls

I have never heard of these brands, but some of you may be using them.

Thank you for posting this Bill/Patricia. We use Fromm products and was glad it was not on that lengthy list.

Generally if pet food comes from China don’t buy it. This is certainly not China bashing but there has been more than their fair share of unsafe pet food. Dog food without grain can cause heart problems.

Lynwood, it isn’t all grain free, it is those with peas/potatoes as the main ingredients. We use a Costco grain free with salmon and Sweet Potatoes as the main ingredients. Our Lab was allergic to the grain foods. He’s almost 11 and starts each day running hills with retrieving. It sounds like a lot of “boutique” foods are in question. The recalled foods came from a plant in Monmouth, Illinois.

Sixteen brands of dog food may be associated with a heightened risk of heart failure in dogs, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA isn't suggesting that pet owners stop feeding their dogs the particular brands yet, but some vets are already advising against "grain free" foods.

The FDA is currently investigating more than 500 reports that appear to link dog foods that are marketed as "grain free" to canine dilated cardiomyopathy. The FDA has been warning about the foods based on peas, lentils or potatoes since July 2018, but the statement released late last week is the first time the agency has identified the 16 brand names.

This is what I was referring to. We had a dog a PBGV that had dilated cardiomyopathy. It isn’t any fun. I don’t know the outcome of this investigation.
