Hi,

We are full-time RV years and we’re looking for the best RV GPS out there. Any advice would be well appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

As full timers ourselves who travel all over the country, we went with the Garmin RV GPS for several reasons after researching RV GPS systems. The Garmin name has been around for a long time. It's normally a very reliable system. Good customer service. Easy to read. Has free upgrades. The newest system even has a forward facing camera.

And it has saved us more than once from low overpasses/bridges.

Rand McNally also makes a popular RV GPS, but for us it was to busy of a screen.

There are multiple phone apps to depending if you have Android or iPhone. One popular app is Truckers path and Togo RV. Go to your phone's Play Store and search.

We prefer the GPS up in front of us for better visibility and the most updated info. We definitely don't trust our trucks on board GPS when towing because we can't put in height, weight and length.

Hope this helps,

We had Rand McNally for the first 8 years of full timing. Since then we have switched to Garmin because we liked the screen better and have done 4 years with them. Either is good, but obviously we think the Garmin is a little better.

Also in the Garmin RV GPS camp. We've had our Garmin RV 770 LMT-S since June of 2019. Absolutely love the thing!

Can’t say I recommend a gps but I know I made a mistake buying a Magellan rv gps. The voice sounded like she was drunk slurring her words. Plus took us to places I never new existed terrible

Funny, going "places we never new existed" is why we like to RV.

Another Garmin long time user. I think there are probably 3-4 around the house andvehicles. I'm still using the now outdated 7" Garmin NUVI 760 RV and able to update it at least yearly but lust for their latest 8" 890.

Anther RV site had a thread up (couldn't find it this AM) where several folks had problems with customer service and their newish Rand McNally RV GPS. Magellan and Tom-Tom seem to have gone pretty much by the wayside.

I have a Garmin 785 while it's good sometimes it takes some weird route. Last year we were going to KOA Billing going west on 90 it took us though downtown instead of to the proper exit.

Garmin 770 here. It took me on one wild goose chase but otherwise has been right on. I think all navigations tools can occasionally mislead.

I also had Rand McNally for 6 years. Lifetime update from them is BS. No updates in 4 years.

Tried RV Trip Wizzard and another online routing software, didnt like.

Purchased Garmin RV 780, used it twice. So far so good.

Garmin

We have a Garmin RV1080, unless you have a LOT of dash space, get the next size down. I thought the 1080 would be great with such a large screen, But it took some acrobatics to find a safe place for it out of the way! But you cant go wrong with a Garmin RV GPS, ours has worked great so far!

Been using Garmin GPS units since the early 1990s. Run a wide screen Garmin Nuvi in the truck and another on the Goldwing motorcycle.. I haven't carried or used any paper maps or atlases in decades

I have been using my iphone road maps with relative ease but I do get sent off an occasional exit only to be redirected back on to the original route. Im taking a substantial cross county trip this summer and should probably go with some reliability. Anybody experienced iphone reliability or what is a good garmin model for a dash mount?

I bought a Garmin 760 RV off ebay for $100. I use the free Garmin Basecamp software with RVPARKY (free) to load my trips. Been using it for about 9 months and it hasn't yet taken me down a bad road.
