I would not ass/u/me that max pin weight. You need to get on a scale and look at your axle weights once loaded and make sure you are under on front, rear and total truck is under GVWR. No issues empty but once you load up, check it and move stuff if necessary.

We do park on the outskirts of lots and still hit the powerfold on the mirrors.

Edit: we were 9,100 loaded with tools and hitch - ready to tow.

It's done once the truck is purchased. Perhaps you could test drive the truck of choice to a scale for a base weight. I think Ford went with aluminum bodies a few years ago which would help. Weight numbers advertised are often based upon stripped down trucks.

Thanks ...... ..... 9,000 sounds good but I tend to lean on overweighted numbers to be sure absolutely need to get it on the scale.

NOW! You are completely confused, so it's time to look at the actual technical specs. Mamy of the various Ford truck forum sites have a set and of course the OEM site (https://www.ford.com/trucks/super-du...s/f350-lariat/ ).. We'll give you real life likes , dislikes and experiences but the actual numbers - for the most part need to be dug out of the dealer's often numb sales force or a website. As far as actually being able to purcase a new truck in the near future with the chip shortage - who knows. My local two dealers have no idea when a truck will arrive and have nary a one, new or used on their lots.

Thank you Dave. I looked at the Ford Site and the numbers for a F350 4X4 and figured for the best towing the 6.7 Turbo Diesel with 20" wheels ( the foot not says it matters vs18"), 3.55 is good for axel, long bed. 12.4 is the GVWR with 30,000 GCWR. I' may be close to max out the GVWR but believe I'll stay within that limit. There is plenty if room with the GCWR and axle capacities. As noted above I will have to hit the Scales to get the specific TRUE numbers for TRUCK. I'll follow the Ford numbers for ordering the truck and adjust as needed with my weights and loading practices to stay within the mfg numbers.
Thank You for taking the time to reply with good info

My son has a new 2022 Ford 350 Lariat Superduty on order ,if you want adaptive steering on it you are out of luck , he dropped the adaptive steering , he now has a build date ,and a VIN #. His build date is the week of Sept. 20. I would think he should see that truck before long.

I have heard this from other forums on the adaptive steering also ,so we will see if it actually happens .Can't get a truck built or scheduled if adaptive steering is ordered .

Couple more things to consider - will a 12.4 GVWR enough to include your next last 5er? Even though my F250 has a 10K GVWR sticker on the B pillerl, it actually has a real, by suspension part numbers, a 13.1 GVWR. Legally, I'm supposed to be bound by the 10K GVWR but I've chosen otherwise. Not a good idea if you are still specing a new truck, but that's life. If I went by that GVWR, my payload would be less then 1700 pounds with a bare truck, and at least 3/4 tank of fuel. That truck weighs in at 8360 pounds.

20" tires - check replacement pricing vs the 275/70x18. You do pick up capacity but .....

Good luck and keep us in the loop

I hope it arrives according to schedule. All our local sales force will do is take an order and give you a guess as to delivery

.
As far as adaptive steering - haven't needed it so far and if that was the stucky point, would have crossed it off my order if possible

Any suggestions?
Long bed because you will want to put stuff in there. Dually if your pin weight warrants it, just make sure you are using the actual numbers from the door post not the advertised BS numbers. Wheel base is a function of the other choices. If you are going to drive in the mountains, then lean toward 3.73 and up.

Apparently it is the sticking point , reason he dropped that option , this was the advice from the ordering dealer , he had no idea until then . I wouldn’t think he’d get a build date , and VIN# if it was otherwise . Time will tell .

I just got a text from my son, his truck is built ,and will be delivered to the dealer between Oct 4-10th. As said he took the adaptive steering off the order with advice from the dealer ,and the ball got rolling .

So did you order a truck before asking for everyone's advice on 9-18?

Truck shoppers may want to be aware of a recent Safety Recall on some new 2020 trucks, and how Ford handled it. The recall directly reduced GVWR and GAWR 78-900 lbs.

Ford's solution to this is simply: we'll replace your placards to the reduced weight ratings, and go forth and prosper (or crash, as the case may be). They don't tell you any specifics for the reasons on your specific rig, just "here's your new placards; good luck with that".

I've been Ford for several decades, but this gives me true pause.

Attached is a safety report on the Recall, and a lawsuit that's been filed over it.

This post in is interests of giving information to those who are considering a new truck. Apparently it is not all sealed on the purchase. Your pre-purchase calculations may not mean much in the end for a Ford.

Good post hortense. I'm right on the limit with my truck. If this happened to me I would be affected in a bad way. The first few pages of the lawsuit make it sound severe. Imagine how the suit would look wrecking a 3/4 ton pulling a monty.

Earlier this year when we transitioned back to a fiver I knew right away the F350 was going to have to be DRW due to the numbers on the rig we were looking at.

I searched for and found one with max tow package (STX package), and 4.10 rear end. The payload on my 2021 is 6,530. My point is even with a heavy tongue weight I have more than enough wiggle room to keep a low profile tool box in the bed of my truck loaded with all my tools, which leaves room in the limited fiver storage for other stuff.

Another thing to consider for 2021 with Ford Super Duty diesels is the new 10 speeds. I'm glad I have the 4.10 but some might want a little different gear for slightly lighter fivers.

I have an order but no build date so I can make changes anytime before build date.

Stretching my caps at GVW 10000 and combined GCWR of 26000. My max is 30000 so I'm kind of skirting the weight limit. Only other option is to go dual axle

Have theF350 / 3.55 diesel long bed for a dry weight 5th wheel of 12,273 with max cap of 4,000 lbs added.
Should have even maxed out 4,000 to spare.

Only other option is dual axle
