Thoughts

On 2018 3130RE. Hi does anyone have any experience with Hartland ST Radials as replacement for the Sailuns that come on the Unit? Looking for any alternatives but have had no issues with the Sailuns. I am at that time that the age is a definite factor. (2018) Thanks

I'm not sure why at 3 years old you would be considering replacing the Sailuns, but from what I see about the Hartland tire, they are saying max 80 psi and load range E, so that would not be a suitable tire to replace the Sailun. https://www.americastire.com/buy-tir...storeCode=1336

Why replace the Sailuns? What could you find better? Am I missing something?

We got five years on our previous set of Sailun tires, and they really still looked in great shape.

The experience I have with heavy trailer tires is minimal compared to other applications. This is the first fairly heavy rig I have pulled. One thing I have a firm belief in is “ you get what you pay for”. That is why I’m seeking opinions on this. My Montana has maybe 2-3000 actual pulling miles due to living in it mostly. ( It was a show model for the dealer so they pulled it around to shows hence the deal we got on it.)(yes they beat it up too). The original Sailuns are holding up fine. I have covered them from the sun. I intend to travel more in the future so I would rather play it safe and get a new set of tires and wondering ( if I don’t stick with Sailuns) what are equivalent or better. Thanks

For the price and quality, pretty hard to beat the Sailuns. For the thread started on this site for Sailun failures, there are too few in my opinion to jump ship and go to something else.

I can't think of a tire I trust more than the Sailuns. We heard people raving some years back about Goodyear614's but ours didn't last considering the price they were. To be fair, we had a lot of suspension issues before we got the Sailuns. We now have resolved the crap OEM suspension with independent suspension at a mere cost of about 6500.00(includes disk brakes). IMHO stay with the Sailuns.

Have you seen the recent price on Sailuns! For the 235-85s they are $200. I paid $135 a pc back in August 2018. Are they still being made in Viet Nam? Any problems with quality?

I just paid $160 at BigO a couple weeks ago. That was before tax, disposal of old tires and all the other stuff added.

If you don’t stick with Sailuns, Carlisle makes a good tire but you might want to stick with the Sailuns. You need a G rated tire. Don’t know about Heartland. Do a search for them to see what threads you can find.

We don't hear much about the newer Westlakes ,they look identical to the Sailuns . I had a new set on my present fifth wheel bought from a friend . The Westlakes came off his new fifth wheel ,he wanted to keep the Sailuns ,and new wheels he had bought not long before he decided on a new fifth wheel, and sold me his used one .

Having had the Sailuns on my previous fifth wheel , I sold those Westlakes to a friend for a decent price . His fifth wheel being a bit lighter then mine or the friends with the new fifth wheel .They were the 235/80/16 G rated , 4080 Lbs , same as the 235/80/16 Sailun. I then went to the 235/85/16 Sailuns.

Those Westlakes have been run hard now for nearly two years, they have been to Alaska for work , and all over the western US without issue. If you didn't look at the brand names on them ,you would think they were Sailuns .

I'm thinking they may be a good alternative to the Vietnam Sailuns .

I have really never paid attention, but it cam very a lot. If you are way north driver at 60 degrees would be a lot different then in the south at 110 degrees. I watch mine and if all about the same temp they are most likely OK, if one starts going a lot higher then the other 5, I would stop and check them with my hand help temp reader and determine what the issue might. It has never happened with me.

I would have a hard look at the Westlake G rated tires. Not hearing many issues with the G's and they are made in China, not Vietnam.

On our trip west in June they increased between 8 and 12 pounds depending on the external temperature.

For all we know they could be built in the same plant as the Sailuns. They sure look like the same tire. I need to take a look at them again when I see the friend next, to see what writing they have on them ,if any compares with the Sailuns .

I have a set of Saliuns with less than a 1,000 miles if you are in Tennessee, I will take $400.00 for 4 each they came on the 2021 Montana 3762BP.

ST 235/80R16.

Happy trails.

The tire pressure was set on 110 lbs, at 70 MPH the pressure would increase to 120 to 125 lbs. I even lower the speed on the interstate to 65 made little to no difference.

Happy Trails.

In my experience, that is a normal amount of pressure in any G tire on a hot day. When it gets over a 100 degrees, I have seem higher. Since you down sized from a G to a F rated tire, I might keep those Sailuns around for a bit. They could come in handy.
