Activating the back up camera
So first, i'm assuming that it's a back up camera on the rear of our 2018 331RL. When we picked it up last week, we were assured the info for the rear camera was included in all of our manuals. Wrong. Could anyone help us out with this? Is there a monitor involved. Do we need something else installed. Many thanks in advance. And also, would you all recommend an observation camera be installed?

Our 2017 has a place to mount one back there that sort of looks like one, but the camera isn't installed. We've never used a camera of any type so I guess our vote is you don't need one. Others swear by them.

My biggest thing was the power to the camera was only on when the tail lights were on ... not hot power

Ruby and Fred,
You need a monitor synced to the camera for it to work - would ask your dealer. It may either be a backup or observation camera - there is not a lot of difference. Next you must sort out how it is powered; options include powered any time battery switch is on, powered when tail lights are on or powered when backup lights are on.

I've read where others have said their dealer removed the monitors from the trailers due to theft. You should have a monitor and your dealer should supply it for you. By the way my 2015 3100rl came with an observation camera and it is powered any time the trailer is supplied with 12 volts. If you can see a red light on the camera when it has 12 volts supplied, than it is most likely an observation camera.

I have a back up camera in my 2013 F350 for the truck. Has anyone heard of being able to integrate the RV back up camera into the current factory monitor in the Ford?

Sounds like it will be cheaper to keep my truck and get a different monitor than buy a 2017 or 2018 truck

I just purchased a Furrion back up camera for my 3121RL and so far it performance has not been up to par. It's supposed to work at 100' I am way under that and can't get it to pair up reliably. CW answer is to camera off the back and the monitor and power them with a remote battery and have them within 2' of each other and then put the camera back up on the rear......what a joke so far. One more attempt before it's going back, and yes the trailer lights are on to provide power to the camera when we attempt to pair.

Our 2017 Montana had the back up camera installed and the monitor and instructions came in a box. It is nice to have but if I had to go out and buy it I probably would not.

Fussion back up camera
GREAT system have one on my 3160RL, Google FUSSION FOS48TA-BL for a MANUAL.
If the camera is installed in the back of the traler your dealer should have given you the monitor for your dash. Press them or go to Montana or Fussion to resolve.
There are a few tricks to the system: Your headlights need to be on for it to work // not you daylight running lights. Next, each time you turn it on CHECK the orientation of the picture display; i.e., the passenge side of the display is actually the passenger side of the trailer. Remembers it is looking backwards so play with the monitors controls to adjust. I leave the monitor (headlights) on all the time when on the road; it a great reference when passing other vehicles because it is very easy to tell when you passed the huge semi or tiny sport car.

backup camera
Purchase backup camera system, modified it for maximum picture signal. Took furnace wire and ran from inside truck cab monitor display, to bumper of RV for camera. Where RV electrical connect/disconnect is, spliced transfer wire with automotive elec.connection.
Sending/Receiving units are within an inch or so of each other, power coming from a toggled power line from an unused fuse in cab fuse box. Display of camera view is on demand for as long as required.
Purchased second camera (same make/model) for truck, used a second automotive elec.connection when RV is not hooked!... everything works great with perfect picture, etc!

While camping this past weekend, along with a couple mods which had been on my list but no time at home to do them ... replaced thermostat with a digital from Coleman, added an arrester for water hammer to supply line for toilet ... I started the install of a wireless camera that came with my Garmin 760LMT GPS. Got it wired to power using the puck lamp under cabinets in back of my trailer. I will add a switch so the camera and transmitter only have power when I'm towing. View with camera danging inside is better than what I expected.
In the coming week I will drill through the back and into said cabinet to complete the install. I'll post pictures. With only 28' of trailer, I'm hopeful the wireless technology will be acceptable. Sure do like the looks of your 3 camera system though!

Our 3810 was prewired for a furrion. I went ahead and added it. I have had no problems with it and it's powered from the running lights. Turn on the running lights and you have a rear view camera. I mount the monitor on our rear view mirror in the pickup and it acts like a rear view mirror, except off the back of the trailer. That mirror is pretty much useless any way since the trailer is in the way. This comes in handy in heavy traffic if you have to change lanes and are wondering if you are far enough past another vehicle which may be hanging in that questionable spot just off the back bumper.

I like the idea of mounting on the rear view mirror!

I just got a Ford F350 and it came with a backup camera, in a box. I haven't had time to investigate yet but I believe one can run the wires through the coach, and have the backup camera integrated with the Ford display.
I might also just use this camera as a hitch camera, point it right at the hitch, and use a wireless one, which I believe my 3950 is "prepped" for.

we ran a line from unused fuse, to a toggle switch to power system... we can have it on anytime we need it, not just in reverse.

I have the Ford OEM camera. I like it. I have not seen the Furrion one to compare it to.
I did not want to have to deal with another monitor on the dash.
Mounting the Monitor on the rearview mirror may make the furrion better. The Furrion screen is smaller. So without being to compare it is a tough call.

Jeff, I think you better off with the oem. I have had nothing but trouble with the Furrion from day one, it will not pair with the monitor reliably. Taking mine back next week.
