I hear thumps every once in a while - like my skirting is being tapped

I assume my stock aluminum skirting is expanding as it warms in the sun and makes thumping noise. Is that possible and/or common? No one is around the camper when I hear it. The skirting is 31” long as it curves under my MHC 372rd. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's coming from the skirtting and not the jacks?

The skirting on my kitchen slide does the same thing as it warms up in the sun. I bought round foam backer rod from lowes, home depot, etc which is about 1/2 inch diameter and used a putty knife to push it up into the Crack on the backside of the skirting. Problem gone.

Yes, we are sure it’s not the jacks. I can bump on the skirting and get a similar sound we are hearing. Thanks for the reply, I’ll have to look into the foam backers or spay foam maybe.

Wouldn't a 372rd have electric jacks?

Could be either one. The siding on my house makes all kind of noise as the sun heats it up.

I'm glad this was posted. I too have heard the thumping noise. But mine is mostly in the evening - not the daytime. I can't be sure, but I think it is of a metal. Expanding or shrinking. More towards the front of the trailer.

some times

Before you spend a lot of time and effort for nothing dump 2 of these in your oil reservoir and work the hydraulics for a time if you have the hydraulic stabilizers. Stopped my issues. Yes knocking on the side of the skirt will make the about same sound. A known fix for the noise.

anti stiction fluid

x2 what bshgto said - but for me there was a motorcycle shop closer to me than the Caterpillar dealership. I bought a bottle of Maxima Fork Oil Grade 15 for $10 + tax and put it in the fluid reservoir. I used a turkey baster to suck out a quart of tranny fluid first then added the anti-stiction fluid and ran the slides in and out a few repetitions. No more popping sounds from the hydraulic system.

But of course this only applies to hydraulic system jacks - not to electric levelers.

When the day warms up you will hear things thumping, popping, or making random noises. My awnings thump/pop in their metal wraps, and the sides of the RV pop. The jack's used to pop until I fixed them.
