New Orleans Area

We are planning a trip to the N.O area first couple of weeks in April. Would appreciate any recommendations on campgrounds in the area. Also would appreciate any suggestions on area's and roads to avoid. The search feature gave me some ideas from 09, just searching if there is any updated info. Thanks, Jim

Jim, we stayed at the RV CG at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St Louis and would recommend it. You do not have to donate to the Casino to stay there but if you do wish to participate in the donation they will comp you some toward your campsite fees plus they have an excellent buffet. Pull up the Hollywood Casino website and they have campground info.

Pine Crest RV Park (Good Sam Park) is decent and just off I-10 second to last exit before the new Lake Pontchartrain Bridge in Slidell LA (Northshore). We'll be staying there again next week.
Easy to get to. Reasonable Rates. Semi-Wooded.
45 minutes or less to Jackson Square/French Quarter.

We have stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park on the Westbank and liked it a lot. It is about thirty minutes from New Orleans. They also honor the Golden Age or as it is now called the America the Beautiful Senior card, so it is half price.

We have stayed at the KOA West twice. The sites are very nice, but the location is not the best. I was concerned with security the first time there and asked questions. There have been no problems in the RV Park. It was a nice stay, and easy travel to downtown NO.

We always go in on the West side, or take Highway 90. I-10 going into NOLA on the East side is a roller coaster ride. When I pulled the Monty through there I had to slow down to 25 miles an hour on the Interstate to keep all wheels on the ground. Other more recent travelers may have better info on the current road system.

Happy trails.
