AC Capacitor Question
Where is the start up capacitor located in the ac/heat pump unit? I've had the cover off, but didn't see the capacitor? Is it under the foam packaging cover?
Mod note: moved to a new thread as it was added to an old thread.

Yes it is under the foam cover. Before you remove the cover get a gromet about as big around as your thumb. The hole the wiring went through in mine didn't have a gromet (wires could chaff on the metal box inside. Also get some Butyl tape to help reseal it when you are done.
The start capacitor is inside the metal box under the foam cover.
If you boondock a lot get a SoftStartRV and install it. It bypasses the start capacitor. The SoftStartRV reduces the startup current surge so you can run your AC unit on a smaller generator.
Picture upside-down, sorry.

If you dont have the electrical skill sets for this task please get experienced help. There will be a start cap and a run cap and these store a lethal voltage.. Must be discharged before handling...

What Chuck said!!! The stored energy in a capacitor can knock a person off of a roof if not properly discharged. Consider the analogy of the cap being that of a 120vac battery.....
