Awning Relocate
Has anyone tried relocating their awning? We have a 3790RD and the awning placement is a major flaw IMHO. We are thinking of moving it 10ft to the rear in order to prevent rain and water from showering us when entering. We are full timers and when we do get snow the melting runs down the porch lights an on the stairs and freezes creating very slippery surface’s

Awnings not covering the door is a common problem related to floor plan and location of the door, and it has been extensively discussed here in the past. I don't think you would be able to pull the thing out and get it over the slideout. I would not touch it. Look at my sketchs below and you can see - you have to get over the slideout if you move left. Walk up to the door with an umbrella. On your way out - umbrella goes first. Try to solve world hunger and the fuel crisis first...they would be easier.

Thanks for your reply. The only issue I see would be the material resting on the slide when it’s full extended. Other than that there’s 4 inches of clearance.

Awnings tend to flap up and down in the wind. I can see the top edge of the slideout wearing thru the fabric over time.

Yes absolutely. I’m going to rig up something at post pics when I’m done.

With the slide out right there, it will be very hard, if even possible, to tilt the awning to help rain run off so it won't "pool". Not to mention, you loose some of the awning coverage because the awning is now over the slide out and not over the area you sit the most. Your space is greatly reduced. (It's just something to think about before making the change.)
I think it would be easier to attach a longer rain gutter that would extend over the slide out with the gutter spout on the other side of the awning. And really, just cap off the gutter end by the door that's over the slide out.

We've had friends with MHs that had the Awning extending over a slide out.
If you do it, my suggestion would be large pool noodles, split them and slide on the top edge of the slide out.

I have a 3791RD and have the same issue, especially with melting snow on the steps. Our rig came with slide toppers, so there is no room above the dining slide for the awning to mount to the side wall. It would be very close to the slide out and eventually cause problems. I've had several techs look at it and all gave the same opinion. Don't do it.
I've been looking at a rectangular umbrella like the "As Seen On TV" Brella Shade, that I could open and attach to the side of the awning between the slide out and the door. Problem is that it would entail a bit of work getting it loose if I need to pull the awning in in a hurry.
If you come up with another solution, please post. I'm still thinking it through.

I have a 3791RD and don’t have the problem you speak of.
1. The awning is not open when it’s raining.
2. I don’t camp in the snow.

Maybe two shorter awnings.
One over the Doorway and slide?
One forward of that on the front half of the rig?

Bad idea. How do you intend to find something to fasten it to. It's not a house with 16" centers, and I am very sure a screw into fiberglass will not hold up.
