I can tell you that my shinny new Ford gets way better MPG at 55/60 than it does at 65/70.

Truck/trailer speed limit in CA is 55. I set my cruise for 55 and still get passed by 18 wheelers. It does make a huge difference in fuel economy!

Here on LI diesel went up $0.10 overnight now is $4.29. I am looking into installing some kind of a sail on my truck to get better mpg.

Heres what really makes me get P-----, when I read something like this today....
WASHINGTON - Iraq is not spending much of its own money, despite soaring oil revenues that are pushing the country toward a massive budget surplus, U.S. auditors told Congress on Tuesday.

The expected surplus comes as the U.S. continues to invest billions of dollars in rebuilding Iraq and faces a financial squeeze domestically because of record oil prices.

"The Iraqis have a budget surplus," said U.S. Comptroller General David Walker. "We have a huge budget deficit. ... One of the questions is who should be paying."

A large part of that price are Taxes such as federal Excise tax, provincial tax, Transit tax, GST/HST. USA federal tx on fuel is 14.5 and in Ohio 28 cents state tax.42.5 cents of my fuel price are taxes. Canada provides many attractive benefits to their citizens but it comes at a price.Canadians pay a average of 35% tax on their fuel VS @ 20% in the USA.We are very much alike in many ways but our Governments are very different. http://www.petro-canada.ca/en/media/296.aspx

I am surprised Diesel is higher than gas because it takes less steps to process Diesel than Gasoline. I just don't get how these big companies keep getting away with ruining the economy. I am not complaining about the royalties I get paid each month either.

Oil closed at just short of 110.00 per barrel although demand is way down and the supply is up.That means that ordinary foks are feeling the pinch of the price of fuel and can not afford to buy it..However there is a much more serious problem. The price increase in the barrel of oil can be directly tied to the faltering Dollar and is a indication of our failing economy and the burning question is not why our leaders are doing little about it but that they barley recognize that it is a problem. realize that the world economy is tied to the dollar..as the dollar goes so goes the world economy... Many folks are being pushed to the brink....what will they do when they get there....there is a storm coming up folks.

You are right on. Again I refer to the lack of any comments, ideas or solutions by not only the big 3 candidates but by all members of congress. Even our local state is clueless regarding this problem. Yesterday I received a notice from the Feds regarding the check that most of us will be receiving. I guess I know where mine will go.

We were in Ft Bragg Ca last week at Exxon when we gat there was $3.81 at Chevron it was $3.83. By Thursday the 6th I noticed at Chevron it was $3.97, Exxon was still $3.81 so we filled up before it went up. Then on Friday we drove by Chevron and they increased the price to $4.05 and Exxon went up to $3.95. That's a big jump in basically one day for Chevron. Someone is sure getting rich by this maybe the little weasel eyed man in charge. Not naming any names but goes by Pre------.

That's the same thing I am seeing...it seems every time I go past my local fill station the prices are changing.
The diesel forums have several, and I do mean several, active threads talking about it...and folks are not happy.

Many, many years ago I managed a gas station. I don't remember how much we made per gallon but I do remember that our price was was based on what it cost us for a load. Once the load was pumped out if there was a change in our cost we passed it on to the consumer whether it was more or less.

You can't tell me that the gas stations are pumping out 2-3 loads per day to justify increasing the price. I know they don't make much per gallon but with few exceptions they are charging us what it is going to cost them not what it has cost them. The Marathon station by me is the only one that does not play the game. When prices go up he sells out first and than raises his price. If costs fall and the others drop their prices he charges a few cents more because of his cost. I buy from him whenever possible.

Using a BP station as a example although they look exactly the same one may be a company station and the other a Franchise station, that is privately owned.Different rules apply. The company dictates the price to the company station the franchise station may or may not follow. Things are not always what they seem.

Guess I'm just a tightwad , 55 to 58mph was my top speed when diesel was only 95 cents a gallon that was back in 1998. I remember my dad back in the 50's when gas was 21 cents gallon, he had a 1951 chevy pickup, when we would go into town, he would cut the motor off, and coast down hills! he never forgot the "depression" years! guess I learn from him, LOL!!

Read an article about fuel prices falling after Americans stop driving this spring. That was yesterday. I felt better - a sense of hope...

Then today a CNN article quoted the International Energy Agency (IEA) as saying that although Americans will cut back on oil usage, China and India and other "developing nations" are increasing their usage and they will more than make up for the difference. As oil is a world market, I realized they might be right and the earlier article's conclusion of fuel dropping in price to any comfortable level this summer is wrong thinking.

That's depressing...

I guess it goes back to previous suggestions regarding increasing domestic oil production. But than the oil companies would probably sell it in the world market for increased profits.

Regardless we are planning our first outing with our new 3400RL in a week at Spring break. We're heading for Branson which will be about 1200 miles round trip. At a conservative 10mpg, 120 gals @ $4 per gal, I hope, that will be about $500 just for fuel. Our friends are suppose to haul their Travel Supreme but I think they're going to motel it. We spent $50 grand for this unit and it's not going to sit at home.

I'm going to travel, travel, travel!
Y'all have to look on the bright side.
When you fill up your TV, it almost doubles the resale value of the TV.
I also got 10 mpg coming 92 miles yesterday. At 3.799 that's about 35 bucks for fuel and a nice week of camping, maybe longer.

Dick-

"You can't tell me that the gas stations are pumping out 2-3 loads per day
to justify increasing the price."

In today's world of super fast technology the stations are capable and do use what happens on the Future's Market. When gasoline futures rise (for example .04/gallon increase) the stations raise their price the next day to compensate for the loss that they would have to endure on the next shipment of fuel.

On the other hand as futures decline there is a tendency for the stations to hold onto the prices longer before they are reduced to make an additional penny or two for what is in their tanks.

No longer when a transport pulls up and unloads it's cargo does the driver hand the station owner a bill for the price of the load. It simply a "cat & mouse" game with the consumer's money.
