Soft Start RV
Got them today, has anyone installed them? Is there anything I need to know before I start?
Thanks in advance

Haven't done them yet. However, here is a great video from Mike Sokol for a no splice softstart install. looks very straight forward. Lots of other you-tube install videos available for both Dometic and Coleman AC.

It literally took me longer to gather and put away my tools than to make the connections. But, I have a little experience in the field.
I can tell you this for fact - The Micro Air Easy Start is simply amazing. I can start and run our 15k Btu A/C with our 2000W Inverter and our Honda 3000 barely comes off idle in Eco mode.
If you dry camp/boondock they are worth every penny.

I installed them on both of my units last week. We are currently hooked up to 30 amp service in a state park with temp’s in the high 90’s and they work great. The 15,000 btu unit has a sensor that the purple and black wire is attached to. I could not find a video that showed how to wire it with this configuration, so I called Easy Start just to make sure that I was going to make the connection properly. They were very helpful and the entire job was very easy.

My husband installed two of them a couple of weeks ago. The info provided on the website with step by step instructions for the specific AC unit is fantastic. Took about an hour. What a huge difference. We can run both ACs on the portable Onan 4500 generator with power to spare. Can run one AC and the microwave.
We used a discount code and saved $50 on two. We used the MicroAir Brand. Don't forget to register for the extended AC warranty after you install them.

Once you get through the first one, the second one goes very fast. Great system.

Why doesn’t the manufacturer install the soft start to begin with? Does it do damage to the air conditioner?

$ that is the reason and no it doesn’t hurt but probably helps your AC.

Some of the new units are starting to ship with soft starts installed. It is part of the super solar package.

Not money. Liability and warranty. No AC manufacturer will allow an OEM to install an aftermarket part on their product. RVP has developed their own and Dometic has one in the works.

I just installed one on the LR 15K AC. My WEN 2K inverter goes into overload unless I shut off the converter breaker. Do you have this problem with your 2K Honda?

Butch and Kathy,
Your converter should only be powered when on shore power or a genny. If the inverter powers the converter it become a circular flow of electric power.

I did the 15k unit this morning. Colorblindness gave me more trouble than anything else. But it works great!

If you are running a 2000 watt genny you will need to shut down all other loads even with the soft start. Remember that a 2000 watt generator, that is surge, with a running watt of 1600.

And remember for every 1000 feet of elevation you loose 3.5% of that wattage. I’m at 1400 feet so I’m down to 95% on my 2000 watt generator or 1515 running watts. We will see tomorrow if my 2000 watt inverter generator will run my 15000 AC. I’m betting NO.
