Insurance rates for our new Montana 3611RL

We are trading our 2007 2955RL for a new 3611 and were shocked at the new insurance rates. We currently have USAA and the new rate triples my annual premium. Has anyone found a company who is more competitive. We are only part time RVers thus the unit sits idle in covered storage at our home about 9 months out of the year. Also this unit has trailer king tires and my trade in has Bridgestone duravis 250's. Thinking I should swap tires although mine are three yrs old. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

tires, you can always swap them, no problem. it'll be your choice on what is best for you.

as for insurance, just start calling around. this will be the best way to figure out the cost.

I called the "Good Sam Insurance Agency" after I kept getting mail from them and my car insurance was making me poor. They shopped around and cut my car insurance in half and darn near cut my 5er insurance in half with MORE coverage. who'da thunk it? I'm very pleased.

I switch to GEICO and they gave me the best price over about six or seven companies I got estimates from. That little lizard did his work for me!

You need to just check around. We just purchased a new Montana and the insurance cost was less than our old unit by $300.00.

When we went fulltime Progressive offered about the best tailored policy for the best price. After buying our Florida home and switching to part time use of the Montana Progressive only reduced our premium by about $100 a year. I wasn't going to pay over $900 a year as a part time camper.

After days of calling around the getting quotes I finally went with Farmer's Insurance. I have a local Illinois agent and I can remove the collision from the policy when my Montana is in storage. Now I am paying right at $700 a year. I probably could have dropped some more stuff and even got it a little cheaper but I'm good with their price for now.

We had Good Sam's insurance. They were the best deal for year one, then rates started to sky rocket. The last increase was $65/mo. more than the previous year. We now have Farmer's tailored to full time RV'ers. Our deductible is half of Good Sam's and it costs about $400 less per year. Having said that, our monthly Big Sky premium is almost twice the cost of the F350.

AARP attaches the Montana to the tow vehicle very reasonable rates.

Farmer's will attach to the tow vehicle as well. Reasonable rates.

Second post on this subject--We had Farmers and they kept increasing our rates without any accidents or anything so we checked around and GEICO came up to have the best price and coverage. We have both vehicles, the Montana, and a larger electric/hydraulic dump trailer insured through them and pay approximately $1200 a year.

Thank you for the many who responded. Still shopping but have found huge differences especially when bundling. Happy camping to you all.
