Tire concerns on new Montana 3611
We take possession of our new Montana on 9 Sept and it has trailer king tires on it which are made in China. Purchasing from Holiday World RV in Dallas, Tx. Does anyone have any experience with this brand. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Currently running Bridgestone Duravis 250's on our old Montana at the advice of LonnieB and love them.

Make sure they are "G" Load Rated tires. A lot of the members here have the Goodyear G-614's and I highly recommend them also.

Get rid of the trailer kings. They are worse than the marathons.

All of us have seen far too many campers with ST tires that have blown out for any of us to be using them on these heavy Montana campers. I live close to I 81 and have see several heavy 5ers this summer that people have got them off the interstate with half the side tore off. They all had one thing in common ST tires. Other tires can fail. With ST tires it's not question of can it fail. The only question is when. You might run them without any trouble but that is not a risk I would take.

Why not have the dealer swap out your Duravis' from your older Montana? All factors being equal, of course. I haven't heard anything good about the Trailer Kings. I believe those are what Keystone switched to due to all the complaints about the GY Marathons. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

The dealer wants $300 to swap them. Seems an unreasonable price to me.

Information on the trailer king tires:
TKS24 ST235/80R16 E/10ply 3520@80single 3080@80Dual.
Based on the load rating, they are matched to the 7000lbs axles that are on the newer Montana trailers. I will not dispute ST tires have a huge fail rate and should be replaced as soon as possible. I have these same tires on my new Montana. I have almost 3000 miles on them so far and no signs of wear or deteriation. I keep them properly inflated and do not drive over 65MPH. I also check them for heat and condition at every stop. Proper Inflation and speed are the two most important things when it comes to tires, and that goes for any brand.
All that being said. If you want peace of mind get the G rated tires mentioned in the tires section of the MOC forum. If it is not in your budget right now. keep your tires aired up and keep your speed down until you can replace them....

$300 does seem a little steap but it's cheaper than taking the side off of your camper. What does peice of mind cost?

I know a couple of new owners that simply made arrangements with a local tire shop near the dealer for about half the dealer cost. They pulled their unit down and back and the dealer's lot attendant pulled the new one down and back. @$120 for 8 off and 8 on with the 4 tires balanced on the new rig.

I drove my new rig about 5 miles to a Discount Tire store and had four new Bridgstones put on the rig. I got a $75.00 per tire credit for the Trail Kings. Brakes and Tires are the most important items on the rig don't skimp.

You'd think the dealer would be willing to do the swap to finalize the sale. It's not that involved. He would have a brand new set of tires on a used Montana (your old one), something he'd probably have to do anyway at his cost. $300? Seems ridiculous to me.

Make sure the tire has load carrying capacity equal to or greater than what the vehicle placard suggests.
Verify that the rim width range is appropriate for the tire to be installed.

300.00 for a swap seems like a lot of $$$ but how does 3 0r 4K $$ sound for a destroyed side of the Rv due to a tire failure.

When I bought my 2014 3402RL it came with Trail Kings, per the order sheet, but based on advice from this forum, I had the dealer upgrade to Goodyear G614 RST tires. The dealer Tiara RV simply took my rims and tires back to Tredit and got the G614 option rims and tires that they normally ship to Keystone.
