I have lived in Utah for over 40 years. In the early 80's (1980) I had to work in price for a while. I had no choice but to travel Hwy 6. I never really liked it for some reason. Always seemed like there were more accidents, train derail, etc, through that canyon. there are ALOT of semi's, fuel tankers that use this road.
I have never pulled my 5er through there and never will, I have taken I-15 south to Nephi, south on rt 28,to Gunnison, south on rt 89 to Salina. US 70 is just a few miles south of Salina. There are several places to get fuel at that point before you get on 70. Love"s is on south side of 70 that I have used. Easy to get into and out.
Yes it is more miles to travel this way, but for me peace of mind.

Enjoy your journey, Keith

I travel that route a couple times per month with and without large trailers; SW Colorado to Salt Lake. The road is fine. It is two lane most of the way, with a lot of passing lanes. Yes, it does have a lot of traffic because it is the shortest route from I-15 to I-70. People will be driving the speed limit+; I usually run 60-65; let them pass you and pull away. The only concern is Soldier Summit as you get close to Spanish Fork. If it is snowing hard the summit can be a little slick; but if it snowing that hard, the interstates will be too. I've run it summer & winter for over 30 years, have never had to take a different route. Early November is usually ok; it will start snowing later in November. Check with the Utah road report before you commit; (800) 492-2400. If you need fuel, there is a truck stop on the south side of Wellington (just south of Price), and a Loves & Flying J in Green River Utah. Also many choices in Grand Junction. Best prices will be in Grand Junction or the Maverick stations all over the Provo/Salt Lake valley (Utah fuel tax is .10 higher than Colorado).

Safe travels

Thanks Scott and Kieth, we are going to Moab for a few days on our way to Florida, so wasn’t sure of the road. Hills don’t bother me to much we have to go over Teton pass to get out other years and fuel no problem carry 100 gallons. Thanks for the help.

Highway 6 is just like the roads you will be taking to Moab; no problems.

Safe travels.
