This is an interesting topic, especially on newer trucks. I bought our current 2012 RAM used and it has a MinMax tuner that the previous owner installed. From the documentation there are different settings that yield different additional HP. Tow Mode adds 60 HP. I'm not sure how much difference it really makes, especially on even newer trucks with increased HP from the factory. Also with more gears on the automatic trannies that better hold RPM's steady.

I put a tuner on my previous 2000 Ford 7.3 diesel that made a big difference in how it towed since it actually changed the shift patterns in it's 4 speed tranny so that it held RPM's on long climbs without constantly trying to upshift. On that truck the difference it made was very beneficial...not sure about current and newer trucks.
