Air conditioner replacement

After 10 plus years, our rear ac is going the way of the dodo. Our 3800RE was built mid 2012 and titled as a 2013. The rear ac is a dometic 541816A701C0. We think we need to replace it with a dometic brisk air 2 ducted unit 15k btu, but would love to hear input on if this will work in our unit, etc. Thanks, john

Pretty sure that A/C you have is already a Brisk Air II ducted. If it is really not working, this should be a direct replacement. Our unit, the same as what you have, is working much better since cleaning debris from the evaporator coil, which was obstructing air flow.

It might be, but I never found any name associated with that manufacturer number in any docs that I found. I do know the manf # for the latest brisk air 2 15k unit is B59516.xx1C0 or 1J0, white or black noted by the last two digits. I have cleaned mine many times over the years and was always happy to see a return in performance. Last years cleaning didn't bring back that and any temps over 80f have brought constant running of the ac and climbing temps inside. So to be kind to a new owner, we are replacing it next week when we take the Monty to Phoenix to sell. Thanks for your reply, john

Update on my ac. Dometic informed us that the brisk air would work to replace the existing unit, if we also buy another control box compatible with our ccc2 thermostat. They also noted that the blizzard nxt, pn H541816A, is the replacement that is compatible and includes the electronics. Unit will be replaced in the morning. Phoenix sure makes you appreciate a working ac. John

Ah, cool air and a continuing to drop inside temps even after both ac's were shut off for two hours as the outside temp was climbing like phoenix does. The blizard nxt is a pretty good engineered unit with impressive rubber mounts over most of the bottom pan so that it sits very well on the roof. It is quieter than our old unit. Our rear ac unit arrived from the factory with its fore/aft alignment pointing slightly off to the street side. When the old unit was pulled, i wasn't real surprised to find out that they found the 14x14 opening was also installed crooked. Guess that line worker really didn't care what was being done. The one thing that i think dometic needs to do better is the fit of the top cover as the very bottom of the cover does not sit evenly down over the top of the base. All they have to do is make the top cover lip about another 1/2 to 1 inch deeper for a perfect fit. Maybe i got a unit that was molded slightly off. Still, the top cover isn't a thin flimsy thing and should last many many years. John

Great job John! Sounds like you know the ball out of the park on that one.

Nice, you should enjoy the results. Our rig came with the Blizzard NXT over the living area. We added the Brisk Air II over the bedroom. The combo has worked quite well for us in up to 100 degree heat.

Enjoy!
