Thermostat/heat pump

When the kitchen thermostat on my 2022 Montana 3931fb is set to “heat elec” does it operate on heat pump until down to about 40F oat then automatically switch to furnace? Thanks….. new RV owner.

I also have a 2022. The unit in living area should be heat pump equipped, and as you saw when on ELEC it should work down to about 45 degrees or so. However, I also discovered (and later confirmed) that if you set the thermostat to 4 degrees or more warmer than current temperature (so your current temperature is say 59 and you set desired temperature to 63 or higher), the furnace will kick on to jumpstart the warming, then turn off when close to desired temperature. To avoid this, I now set temperature for 3 degrees warmer than current, that way only the heat pump activates, then when room reaches my temperature, I set for another 3 degree raise, and so on until actual desired temp reached. Obviously once outside temp drops below about 45 I just switch to GAS and rely on furnace.

Hope this helps.

Thank you; when the temp gets down to about 45 deg does it switch automatically to furnace/gas or do I have to manually change to gas?

If you have the new Coleman units, they switch from heat pump to furnace automatically.

If you have the Older Dometic units, no they don't switch over to furnace.
We have the Dometic system. We check the predicted over night temperatures and decide from there before we go to bed.
For the most part the fireplace works fine for us down into the 30s. We also have a small 350W wall plug heater in the bedroom. It works great to supplement the fireplace.

Not sure that’s correct. I have the Coleman Mach unit, and might be wrong but I don’t think it switches automatically to gas. Been several months since I used RV but my memory is the heat pump just stops working and I notice rig getting colder, at which point I switch to gas, but try it and see what happens. Make sure propane tank is open of course or no furnace.
