Refrigerator Vent Cover

I thought I would share this in case someone else has a similar problem. I was getting ready for a trip and noticed that my lower refrigerator vent cover was loose on the forward side. I opened it up and found that the tab on the vent frame was broken. I suspect I would have lost this cover on the road somewhere.

I drilled to small holes and used a piece of safety wire so the push & turn latch (whatever it's called) had something to grab onto. It is holding well; actually feels more solid than the unbroken side. I'll see how this holds before deciding about ordering a new cover.

Scott, you may have difficulty with replacing that frame, or for that matter, getting a new assembly. If you were to post a photo of the entire door, I can give you some better advice.
2 months ago an a 1,000 mile trip, I lost the cover plate. I learned dometic no longer provided a replacement. I ended up putting a new frame and cover the looks slightly different, but fit in the same rough opening. I congratulate you on a clever repair!

The door fastener wasn’t the problem. The frame opening is.

Jim, I wish it was just a latch. My problem is the frame that is attached to the RV is broken.

I see what you mean. I spent 3 hours trying to find it last night. Tiara RV (Trekwood) is working on it. My opening is 29 1/4" x 13 15/16". The door itself is 30 1/2" x 14 7/8". Frame outside 31 3/4" x 16 3/8".

O.K. I’m going to save you a bunch of time and money. Forget Trekwood! I wasted 3 days getting an answer from them and what did they come up with?
The redesigned Norcold part number costing $170 for a complete frame and door plus shipping of $70. What did the new part number look like? The same as what Amazon is selling for under $50 bucks. I bought the Amazon product and it fit the rough opening perfectly. The difference between the old and new door wasn’t as big a problem as I thought it would be, since the net available access wasn’t as wide as the original. I’ll include a pic of my slide out. The top vent is the original and the lower vent is what Trekwood is quoting, that you can buy on Amazon. I spent 2 weeks trying every possible lead on eBay, internet searches, Craigslist, Offer up etc.. No bueno señor! The bummer part is that after replacing the whole assembly (frame and door) I held on to the frame for 2 months. 3 days ago I finally tossed it in a dumpster thinking I’d never find a use for it. Sorry Dude. Unless you can find another hapless chap like myself who held on to his used part, you are better off ordering the Norcold updated redesigned part Amazon is selling. The redesigned Norcold part has a matte finish…not quite as pretty as my shiny old one. I’ll live with it.

Amazing! Thank you! I figured this would be hard to find, but not that hard. Order placed. Contemplating ordering two of them so they match.

Wait what? You have a auto fire extinguisher in there? I didn't know such a thing existed

Many of us have one of those fire extinguishers just because of so many refer fires.

I stumbled across this post while looking at replacing my vents as they are damaged. My rig is a 2021 3760FL, and looks just like the picture from Amazon. Weird parts is my measurements are 32" wide, and 16" tall. The measurements on amazon show bigger....I wonder if it the right size though?

If you have a Norcold 2118 fridge, it will fit. The confusion lies in where the measurements are taken. Some ads quote the overall dimensions. Others use the rough opening the vents fits in. 32” is the overall. 29 3/4” is the rough opening. The new part has more of a matte finish.

That would make sense. The picture looks like exactly what I have on my 2021. Thanks for the info.
