Lippert hydraulic motor replacement p/n 167576

Hope someone can anwser this. I used Lippert technical help to determine that my hydraulic motor is bad on my 2018 Montana 3701LK. I have ordered a new motor and watched an online video of how they were replacing the motor. They removed the entire unit tank, pump, and motor. The question I have is if the motor is only held on the pump by the 2 bolts and has the 2 wires to the motor is there any reason I can’t leave the unit in place to replace the motor? I also intend to get the old motor repaired if possible (spare can’t hurt) lol.

As long as you have enough room to back out the old motor and the two bolts then removal and replacement could be done with the rest of the unit installed.

On mine I have the room and would not pull the entire assy and tank out to replace just a motor

When mine was changed out, they did what you want. Just pull the motor. That way there is no need to drain the reservoir.

If you can`t get your old broken motor repaired like I did when mine went out, Was told no repair parts available. I would be interested in buying it. Let me know if you do. PM

Like mentioned, "if" they can source say the armature ... you'll find it too costly to have it repaired. I wanted to have my old compressor motor rewound as it showed shorted out. 2 places here in Wichita that do motor rewinds said just buy a cross referenced motor as they would have to charge way more just to do a rewind. Most everything made in the last 15 years or so is single use throw away with CHINA as it's identifier.

Update, after the new motor got lost in the US mail they shipped a second motor UPS. I was able to replace it without removing anything but the motor. The old motor was bad and now to see if I can get it repaired. Thanks for all the input

This is unusual. We ship several thousand packages USPS each year and receive hundreds more and I don’t remember when we have lost one.
And a word to the wise or tight wads like me. Flat rate and regular mail will arrive at the same time almost always. The difference is flat rate hast leave the post office the day you ship but regular mail will leave the same day to.

Looking for replacement instructions

Our Lippert hydraulic motor is no longer working (2020 3931FB)….sad given it is just over a year old.
The motor in this thread looks to be the same but I don’t see any replacement /installation instructions just a discussion on just replacing the motor if you can get at it versus removing the reservoir/solenoid.

Question is it ok to just replace the motor and not touch the rest of the hydraulic system?

Our hydraulic pump motor failed last year and I found a shop in Whittier, CA that rewound it, installed new brushes and bearings for $325. It works great. This is the thread I posted about it. https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...ad.php?t=82928
One additional note, I eventually swapped the motor leads so the motor runs in the correct direction and put the control leads back in their original locations.

Motor replacement

So the motor can be replaced without impacting the hydraulic system
Yes or no?
Looks to be two bolts that secure the motor and 2 battery like wires (black ) that need to be disconnected & reconnected

Yes you can just replace the motor. Be aware that the 2 bolts also hold the motor together as well as holding it on the pump. It will try to come apart as you remove or install it. There is also a small piece between the motor shaft and pump shaft (coupling/adapter) that may come out when you remove the motor (not keyed or held on by set screws). Make sure it is aligned when you reinstall the motor. The most difficult part I had replacing it was aligning the coupling while holding the motor together and still getting the bolts to line up. There is also small o-ring in the bottom to help keep grease out of the motor. It would be easy to do it it were more accessible but I did not remove the reservoir so the was only room for 1 person to work on it.

That’s all you need to do. Removing and installing the motor is really pretty easy. I would recommend using some masking tape to secure the two end plates to the body of the motor just to keep it all together. If, when you install the motor, it is rotating the opposite way, which you will know if the hydraulics aren’t functioning, reverse the leads to the motor and the hydraulics should then work.

That’s all you need to do, no need to touch anything else. I would recommend using masking tape to hold the end caps to the body of the motor to keep it all together for both the removal and when you install the new one. When done, if the motor spins but the hydraulics don’t function, just reverse the leads to the motor so it spins the opposite way and your hydraulics should then work.

Yes, absolutely can be removed and reinstalled without affecting the hydraulics. I would recommend using masking tape to hold the end plates to the body of the motor when removing and installing so you don’t have it coming apart when handling the motor. Once installed, if when you operate a slide or jacks and the motor runs but nothing happens, the motor is spinning backwards. To fix that issue, just reverse the motor leads and everything should operate correctly.

Bad motor

I know there hasn’t been any discussion on this for awhile but for those still wrestling with circuit breakers and such let me add my experience. I’ve been having trouble with the breakers tripping on my slide outs and I replaced with an 80 amp. That worked for awhile but it started tripping the 80. The last time I used the that motor my meter was showing 90-100 amp draw. So I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new motor. Lucky for me I found a returned unit on Amazon for $550. After installed the meter read 30-40 amps!!! I’ve read that some motors have gone bad after 1-2 years so I guess I was lucky to get 4. They just don’t build em like they used to.

Absolutely yes. No need to pull the entire pump assembly. If you intend to get the old one rewound, I would use masking tape to hold the top and bottom ends of the motor to the housing. If the new motor has nuts on the bolts, be sure to use them on the old motor before shipping it. Also, the new motor when installed may spin backwards and if it does, reverse the power leads and it will work fine.

This is exactly the issue I am having. I have a new motor being shipped from Lippert directly. Your post gives me the encouragement I need to get the job done.
