2022 HC 295RL bedroom slide

Greeting all, following is email I sent to dealer service dept; any ideas?
Thanks
Jack

Hello Lydia, just got back from 2 months touring SE US with HC. No real issues just normal panels coming "un-nailed" in nose and trim falling off. BUT, bedroom slide (the one McDowell replaced in Dec 2022) stalled/stopped one time towards the end or our trip. We had to retract and start slide out again and it worked then and then worked 2 more times with no issue. I saw some black paint and very slight aluminum scraped off bottom front track located in first 18" of track but nothing terrible. Every time; we slide out/in we hold power button for 3-5 seconds at end of travel as we were instructed. BTW: we NEVER slide out/in without being level.

Is there anything I should check or anything I can do to be proactive regarding having this system NOT fail again?

Hi,
We just purchased our new 2022 HC 295rl and during the walkthrough we were told that proper lubrication was key to keeping slide mechanisms and seals functioning.

We were also told that silicone based lubes were preferred because they will not breakdown seal material, although silicone is more expensive. Mechanisms should be lubed twice annually, and seals every few months.

These slides are also prone to miss-alignment, but since you said you are level when extending hopefully that's not an issue. No personal experience with this yet, so just passing along this info we were told. Good luck.

Jpalmer; during your walkthrough did dealer tell you how to lube "slide mechanisms" for the bedroom Schwintek slide system on the bedroom slide- not being sarcastic, I really would like to know? Having previously owned/maintained our 2013 Montana Mountaineer since new 2013 with same bedroom slide system (BTW- never failed in 8+ years mostly full time for work) we were and still are only able to lube the other slide rails and gears; as far as mechanisms go. The only mechanism parts (that I know of) on the bedroom Schwintek system are the rollers. Any ideas are worth considering.
Thanks

Here are links to some videos that explain where to lube the mechanism.
Also - keeping your rubber seals treated with rubber conditioner helps (seals occur on both sides + roof and bottom).

Hey y'all. Attention 2022 MHC 295 owners. If you experience any bedroom Schwintek slide issues start here. What it doesn't tell you is there has been a lot of issues from product installation to inferior components. (Due to supply chain issues). Not to mention the slide system wasn't designed for a 10 wide room.

Don't make the mistake of lubing the rail and gear. This will also cause failure. You're only suppose to lube the top bearing block.

It's more then just being level. The bedroom side axles have to be supported evenly. If they hang even a little that BIG hole gets out of square and the slide fails.

You will learn how the system works, how to work on it and how to keep the system in good working order

He didn't go into a lot of detail, he said to buy a spray can and spray the track, and run it in and out once to distribute. Also, treat the seals so they don't break down. Someone posted a video and the main picture shows where the walk through guide pointed to apply the lube.

Don't lube the slides.

Sorry about Any bad info, was just passing along what the RV tech told us.

I think the Lippert classes look promising.
Thanks!

I was told to never put any chemicals on my slide out seals by my dealer. I was skeptical of that advise and did use some seal treatment for a while. Then at the national rally last year, the Lippert speaker at one of their seminars said the same thing. Then I found online “ common rv slide out mistakes and how to avoid them” by Steele rubber company. You will have to google it, I can’t attach the link. Three strikes and I’m out, no more treating the seals and I am seeing no more black marks on the sides of the coach from the bulb seals and they are looking and feeling much better. Not saying what to do..so much info out there..just throwing it out there

We're actually talking about the Schwintek slide not the rubber wipers but since you brought it up, I use baby powder. Works great.

Yes, Lippert recommends baby powder to keep the seals from sticking to the walls when the slides are in. It was mentioned above about treating the slide seals so I thought I would share.

Jpalmer: no worries on any bad info that you're passing along especially if coming from dealer- all appreciated; it's up to us, the readers, to confirm. Everyone has different opinions. As you read above; "don't lube gears...". Personally, as a 40 year Caterpillar type equipment owner; I lube any and all rack and pinion gears and use dry lube non-dirt attracting lube. YMMV

Yes - I read the blog from Steele Rubber Co. It seems the propellants in the canned conditioners are a problem. I am an official baby powder convert now!

To the baby powder group - how do you apply it? I suppose climb a ladder and rub it in? Also, there are 2 seals around each slide - one visible and one inside the outer one. How do you get in there? Thanks.

Yep, a rag and a ladder.

I have never used anything but baby powder or talcum powder for the last 45 years on any RV I've owned..

My low grade video I made a while back showing how I apply the baby powder to the interior seals, exterior wiper seals and D seals on the exterior

ChuckS, do you put powder on both sides of the inner flap seal? It looked like you just put it on one side. Thanks.

Both sides of both the interior and exterior wiper seals.. Its was a bit challenig for and old man like me to try to hold the iPhone and use the other hand to do the work...

I lift up the seal and work the sock.. or it could be a rag also and wipe back and forth along the underneath side as well as exposed sides

On the exterior wiper seals I find that even at age 69 I just get on the roof and get down on my belly and crawl along the edge of the roof and work the baby powder into the wiper seals ( vertical and horizontal ones ).. The exterior D seals I either pull the slides about half way in and do the high areas from the roof or use my ladder with the slides extended.

My slide D seals never stick and pop when opening the slides and they leave no marks on the filon walls.. Any of those "Slide seal condtioners" when used on the D seals WILL, on a hot summer day when you extend the slides often cause the D seals to stick to the filon wall, make marks, and often the slide sticks a tad till the extend motion pops the D seals loose from the filon..

Others like those products... I will stick with what has worked for decades for me.. My D seals on my 2014 are still the originals, no tears, etc.
