Baggage Door Hinges

I need to source a replacement hinge for the rear baggage door. It is a single piece 46 3/4” long. Best description I can offer is that it looks like a “C” inside a “C”. The former being smaller than the latter. I’ve looked online at various parts outlets, but no joy so far.

Have not seen any of these hinges available. Most likely a new door assembly will be the only option. What rig is this for?

Phone call to a place like Trekwood might get someone there to at least point you in the right direction.

It’s a 2018 3791 RD. The door is one of 2 heavies that you raise completely vertical until it catches a magnetic latch at the top. The hinge has become “deformed” on one side. The door and the frame are fine. I can se how to remove the existing hinge but I haven’t been able to source a replacement. If I can’t, I’m thinking about a heavy duty piano hinge.

I looked at their website. They had nothing other than some slam latch hardware. I’m thinking the mfg buys this stuff in very long lengths - rolls maybe - and cuts it to required dimensions.

I had to replace the rear hatch on my 2021 3761fl, the c channel hinge misaligned and damaged it. Fortunately camping world covered it under warranty. You might call a camper world and find a supplier. They replaced the entire hatch with hinge.

I hate to have to replace a door and frame plus getting it painted and installed just to remedy a broken hinge. Not to mention the unanticipated problems that inevitably follow replacing things like that. That route implies a couple of thousand dollars in cost versus maybe $150 and some DIY time. I am looking at RV salvage yards to see if I can harvest a hinge or, worse case, a door and frame set where I can harvest a hinge from that. Unless I’m missing a vital point or two, it just cannot be that hard. Shouldn’t be, in any case.

Tony,

I have also replaced a door over a hinge problem. As I remember it was about $300 and came painted. A RV body shop got the part for me.

What do you mean - deformed? If it is bent apart a bit, or something not REALLY bad, you could maybe remove it from the frame and use a vise etc to straighten it back up. Just a thought.

Maybe:

Page also shows the part number for the female hinge.

Tony, Google and see if you have any RV Salvage companies in your area. If you do you might be in luck and be able to get one from them or even a complete door setup and just take the hinge off of it to replace the one that is damaged. If you don't have any luck, check with your dealer that you bought your unit from or a dealer near you and see if they can order the hinge only. They normally have contacts of companies that the plain owner does not even think about. I know my dealer does anyway.

Would have thought the Amazon link in post #9 might work. Guess not??? Would be great if we had pics of the installed hinge to help out more.

Current Hinge

I have attempted to upload a picture of the damaged hinge. Not sure if the upload took although it shows it has.

This is very similar to ours, the best I can recall. It may work for your issue.

At a glance, it looks more workable than anything else I’ve see. I would have to drill in a couple of set-screws to keep it from sliding around.

Thank you.

There are rubber plugs made to slide into the ends to prevent the hinge parts from sliding apart.

It is hard to tell from your photo - it almost looks like the frame has slipped down in the middle. Put a straight edge across the top (like my pic #1 below) to determine what is out of kilter. The other two pics show my hinge + the plastic hinge plug/door stop that would have to be removed if I was going to slide the door off the hinge extrusion.
