Awning Issue
Are 2014 Montana has a Dometic 9100 electric awning. We just discovered that we cannot access the grove that allows you to slid the emergency strap on or put slid in hooks to hold lights because the left sided cap was incorrectly put back on when the dealership replaced the defective awing fabric for us. To top it off, the dealership has gone out of business, so we can't go back to them to get the problem fixed.
We are trying to figure out if we can just remove and spin the end cap into the proper position, but are concerned that when we remove the rivets holding the cap on that things might go "pop" because of any springs or tension. We have tried to find diagrams on the domestic web site, but are unable to locate the information we need.
Looking for any advice on this topic.

Jim-- since your unit is a 2014 and hopefully still under warranty, I would be calling Keystone Customer Service and tell them your problem/s since your purchasing dealer is no longer in business and see if they can give you another dealer near you that you can take your rig to so they can correct the problem. Did you also purchase an extended warranty when you purchased the unit? If so, they may pay for the repair or correction and point you in the right direction to a dealer or a mobile service tech that can do the work. Keep us informed on how this situation turns out!

Hi
You are correct about the spring.
There is a way to pin the spring so it spring will not unwind and if the cap you need to remove is on the end where you put the pin it is easy to make a tool to unwind the spring with.
I have had mine apart and it isn’t difficult but the spring can be dangerous and if you have to unwind the spring this has to be done with the awing retracted.
You can download the manual from the Internet.

X2 what pineranch said. Use a dremel and cut a new slot. John

I have tightened loose awnings multiple times, by spinning the endcap/spring using a cotter pin to secure and a wrench. Best done with a buddy.

My 2011 never did have the opening in the end cap from day one. I did as has been suggested ... got out my Dremel. Be sure to radius the slot and don't go any larger than you need or you'll get into the tube itself.
