So sorry to hear about your awning! But thank you for posting this. I have been having the "awning conversation" with myself since I have arrived in Orlando. It rains everday and sometimes wind, sometimes not, but you never know. I do have tie downs, but I have still been rolling it up, rolling it down, sometimes more than once in a day.
Maybe the tie downs would prevent what happened to you but, I don't have an $700 to find out and I need my awning living out in this "field" in July right now.
Your post will help me from becoming too complacent. I think I'll chose rolling up the awning than going through what you just did.
