Water heater bypass

I replaced the check valve on my 2008 montana water heater, however when winterizing I still
Get anti freeze in the hot water tank. Help

I assume you turned the water heater bypass switch to the bypass position.

Yes. After initially switching the bypass valve I got anti freeze in the tank. So changed the check valve , but still get anti freeze in the tank. Could the bypass valve be abd

I am sure it is possible. But I can’t remember off hand anyone ever posting about a bypass valve failing.

I think at the age of the valve, the O-ring may be deteriorated which could allow the pink stuff into the water heater tank. That would be the only other way if the check valve is working properly, which is newly replaced so should be good. And this drawing I made years ago should be a similar diagram for your plumbing, at least the part where the water heater bypass valve is and works. And, if you didn't want to replace the three way valve, a simple on and off valve could be cut into the cold water line going into the water heater that would shut off water into the tank.

Maybe you have some in the holding tank and I have never heard of that valve failing there is always a first
