Sailun tire code

Thanks again. Found the codes on the opposite sidewall. Glad to see they're all 5120 so we're good to go. Have a Merry Christmas folks.

I had my recalled Sailun tires replaced today- 3 were 4020 code and 2 were 4120. They just fell within the codes to be recalled. Thanks to this forum, I was made aware of the problem, because I haven’t received a letter from Simple Tire or Sailun.

I bought 4 Sailuns last summer with one being made in China and 3 in Vietnam. The Mfg. dates are 2120, 3320 and 5120 on the 1YJ tires.

I want all 4 to match, but will Sailun also replace the "China" and the "5120" since they are not on the recall? *NTB said that they would not and that they will not sell me anymore Sailun tires at this time.

If you got your tires from Simple Tire, you should have or should get an email about the recall. I was lucky and mine are outside the date codes of the recall.

What brand are you replacing with? My NTB won't sell ANY Sailun tires right now.

I spoke with the TBC person regarding replacing my tires yesterday and she did not say anything about having to replace the tires with another brand...

I had 1 tire that is being recalled. I took it back to my Big O tire and they replace it no problem. The new tire is a made in Vietnam tire.

I have all 7 tires in the recall. Waiting for them to arrive at the local Big O.

Just got off the phone with my semi-local Big O store.
NOT a happy experience...after being told last week by someone who identified themselves as the "manager" and being told by him that he could get me the tires, but couldn't do the install, I hadn't heard back in over a week.

Now I'm told (by another guy at the same store) that they must have me bring in the trailer for an "inspection"...but he can't guarantee that they can physically accommodate my trailer!! Yes, I gave him the overall dimensions (length) and he still couldn't figure out if he could do it or not.

I explained that there is nothing to see other than the DOT and/or the date code and I'm NOT driving 15 miles with the trailer to a location that can't actually do the tire swap only to drive back home, park the trailer and start over elsewhere!

Gotta talk again with the nice lady at TBC and make alternate arrangements.

Called the local Big O tire about my Sailuns. I did not purchase them from Big O as I was on a trip and had a blow out so I replaced all 5 with the Sailuns from a local dealer. They were hard to find at the time! Now with the recall, I called Big-O and they replaced the 3 tires that were in the recall for me, No Charge.

Thanks Big-O

Stung by this defect

I bought 5 tires that are under this recall. One tire failed and did some moderate damage to the right rear body, including to some wiring.

Purchased from dealer in Utah. Now I'm in Charlotte, NC area. TBC Corp (company that owns the Sailun brand in USA) has so far left me to find a dealer that will process this recall. grrr
They suggested NTB and Discount Tire (also controlled by TBC Corp). I've not been successful with any local dealer, citing their businesses are too small to handle a big 5th wheel.

Are any of you fellow forumites located in the Charlotte area and could recommend a Sailun dealer?

It sounds ridiculous, but even the Montana dealers in the area don't do tires, but sub that work out to local tire dealerships --- who don't carry Sailun brand.

I feel your pain brother...
I finally made arrangements with a semi local (15 miles away) Big O store that can just barely handle my Montana...IF I come in on a Sunday so they have room.
Not sure if you spoke by phone with Kara at TBC, but she was helpful...

I did get an email from this guy regarding the arrangements I ended up making with Big O.

You could contact him directly to discuss your situation, Hope that helps.

I got my first set from my local Big O, but they were no help on the recall. I took the tires in to them the first time because I replaced my bearings and did a brake check. They also said they couldn't do it if the tires were on the rig. I went to the district manager who said none of their shops could do it. I called the RV dealer and he said to call the Royal tire right next door, they do all the tires for the dealership. I ordered the tires from Simple Tire and the Royal Tire shop (they didn't carry Sailun) installed and balanced them. I had to put money out but they are reimbursing me. A little hassle, but it is done. First and last time going to the Big O shops in my area.

"They suggested NTB and Discount Tire (also controlled by TBC Corp). I've not been successful with any local dealer, citing their businesses are too small to handle a big 5th wheel."

I bought Saliuns through Simpletire.com then went to a Discount Tire to have them mounted (made in China tires not involved in the recall). This was not the nearest store to me, but two other closer stores did not have good clear access. I picked a store that had good access for me, no steep approaches, no tree limbs, etc. I stopped by the store and asked them if they would mount my tires if I got there first thing in the morning, and could they park me in front of a couple of service bays while the work was done, and they said yes. The screen shot below shows where I parked while they did the work.

I thought all Discount Tire shops were about the same size...never considered one to be "too small to handle a big rig".

The guy from TBC (in my previous post) called the owner of the Big O nearest me and we worked out the details.

Gotta go in on Sunday when the shops next to them are closed so I can put my rig in the parking spots normally occupied by other cars during the week.

Kind of a hassle, but I appreciate them working with me to get it done...
I actually did a recon trip to the store to scope out the access and parking area, not gonna take anyone's word for it.
Too much effort to hook up the trailer and drive over there just to find out it won't work after all...

Thanx for the quick replies, but Big O is not local to Charlotte, NC.

Anybody out there that's within 100 miles of Charlotte?

Thanx too for the Quality Manager contact info. I had one contact with Stacy in QA, but I'll try this contact tomorrow.

So TBC had me call all over saying to call Midas and NTB. I called all of them and none of them could fit us within 30 miles due to the size of their parking lots and inability to lift our rig. TBC agreed to have an RV dealer jack the rv up and pull the wheels. Then I have to drive them to the 3 mile away NTB to mount and balance the tires. Then I have to take them back to the rv dealer to have the tires mounted. I have to pay the RV dealer whatever their charge is and TBC is reimbursing me the cost. Should be a fun day, I was told hourly shop rate is $150 an hour. So I’m guessing this will take 5 hours since NTB won’t give me an appointment and just said bring the tires over and we’ll get them done as fast as we can.

Did you consider taking them off ,and taking them to the tire shop. I have yet to take a fifth wheel in for tires. I always remove them ,and take them to them, to me it seems much easier than getting a fifth wheel to a shop that may or may not do the job right ,and then there's the chance of them jacking it up wrong ,and doing damage .

IN addition, if I remove the wheels and then install them again, I am sure it is done properly with an impact wrench torqued in three steps. This avoids the knuckle dragger with the impact wrench set at god only knows what.
