CD player problem
How do I get the unit out of its cubby hole without breaking something? I have a 2955RL with an RCA 5 Disc CD/radio/cassett player.

Found it, there was two screws well concealed in the overhead cabinets, one on each side of the stereo. Thanks anyway to all.

I have a 2955 and the stero unit is not the same that you have but the unit is held in with a strap with velcro. It was hard to see the strap without a flashlight. The unit sits on a little plastic tray sort of thing with the strap holding the unit on to the tray.

morganm12, what are you planning with the cd player ? fixing it ? replacing it ? what with ? We have the same unit and it no longer works - too much dust or something ??? I've been watching threads on the subject looking for a unit that will just replace the RCA spacewise without making any alterations.

A slight twist to the screw method of holding items. On my Mountaineer the TV is held at the top/front by two screws from above. The problem is that the screws are driven into the plastic of the TV and have broken off at the head. Luckily the length of the screws hits the molding at the top of the cabinet which prevents the TV from tipping out or sliding outwards. But how am I to remove the TV from its cabinet? I guess I will have to hacksaw the screws off. But then how do I remove the stubs from the TV? The reason I am asking this is because the TV supplied with the trailer is the cheap model with the curved screen which shows a huge amount of light reflections and I want to replace it with a flat screen or flat panel TV. Poor workmanship there. But it is the only poor work problem found so far.

Hello VanMan, I called a repair shop today and told the guy what stereo I had and he told me what the problem was before I could tell him what it wasn't doing. This particular RCA unit, an RS1285, was bad for not reading cd's. The part to fix this unit would cost $128 plus installation. He said it should be condemned and I should get a Sony, JVC, or an Iowa(never heard of this one). He said that once you open the Iowa up it has all Sony parts. I am currently shopping for one that will fit the hole without any modifications. I also intend to use my original speakers with what ever I buy. Circuit City has an RCA that looks like its the same size with only one cassette player. There are strong recommendations for the Sony and I must admit to leaning that way. I do have Easy Care extended warranty which is suppose to fix or replace the original unit. I'm going for the replacement, we'll see. So VanMan to answer your question, I'm getting a new stereo.

morganm12 - keep me posted on what you get (or PM me). We're still working, so we don't get to use use our TT very often and I never think about the stereo until we do go - then wish I'd done something about it. I got a combo DVD player and VHS from WalMart - I think it plays CDs so at least we have something (maybe).

I have a 2004 3255RL Montana. The stereo receiver/DVD player is a Quest QR1000. I need to raplace it but can find no information about the manufacturer. I'm looking for a replacement without having to buy the whole system and throwing the speakers away. Has anyone found anything suitable?

You can try calling Keystone, I know they have an updated Quest QR2000 out and now I believe they have a new QR3000 out for the 2006. Keystone has become very aware of our unhappiness with the unit and seems to be trying to help get it replaced. I am going to the rv show this weekend and going to have my dealership order the new QR3000 to replace the unit for the 3rd and final time. If this does not fix the problem, I will be getting the Bose unit in April to replace the entire system with. Since my QR2000 is under warranty I am going to replace it, I hear the new unit is much improved. If you do a search on the Quest unit you will find that it has been discussed many times, you will also find what other units folks have replaced theirs with. Last but not least, Welcome to the MOC Gordon Farr!

On the subject of stereos; we have a 2005 3295RK. The stereo sub-woofer is located in a cabinet to the right of the TV on a short wire. Is this normal and has anyone relocated theirs?

Dennis-
Mine is identical to yours. Have not thought about relocation. I bought the same type wire shelving material and clips that is in the rest of the trailer at Lowe's and part of it was used above the woofer for additional storage. The rest was used in the area where the W/D is supposed to be.

Thanks for the information. I've tried emailing Keystone twice but they haven't replied. I'll try your suggestion and call them.

Thanks Charlie, That info will come in handy. We bought a 5 cu. ft. freezer to put in the W/D space, it should arrive this weekend. I was thinking of putting either shelving or a combination of shelving and a closet clothes bar above it for jackets and such. I think I'm also going to relocate the sub-woofer to the space below the TV and use the cabinet for something else.

I finally did call Keystone. They transfered me to a John Mochamen of The Odyssey Group. He has been most helpful. You can reach him at 574-848-2294 or johnm@odygroup.net.
I'll let you know how it all works out.

John Mochamer replaced our QR1000 with the QR3000 at no cost to us except shipping the defective unit back to him. I installed it today and it is working in all modes. John has been very good to work with. I would suggest to those having troubles to call or email him. See above message for number and/or address.

Gordon,
Glad to hear that John has come through for you and your new Quest QR3000 is working. It is always nice to hear that even though there are problems with our units, they are able to be solved with a positive solution for each party.
