6" dia Roof Top vent

Last week, while camping in Bar Harbor, ME, I decided to measure the height of my MHC 295 RL while level. It's been an ongoing question since I've had issues with nose high, too tall towing. In any event, while up on the roof, I noticed that the front 6" diameter vent cover was missing?! I put some duct tape over it because we were expecting rain. I was able to find one on Amazon and replaced it on Saturday. It screwed on a stainless bolt that protrudes up from the vent (another thing to periodically check). This whole thing got me thinking; what the heck is the purposed of those vents (there is another in the rear of the camper). There was no debris in the vent itself so I think there is some back and forth air travel. I just don't have any idea what the vent is or its purpose. If anyone knows, I'd be interested because, inquiring minds want to know.
FTWIW- hitched height is 13'2 1/2" - we were at 13'9" before this trip.

Do I need a ladder to get to the attic or is that another thing Keystone forgot to inform me about? I could use some additional storage.

Attic in this case is just a narrow insulated air space between the roof and the inside ceiling panels. Vents so it can “breath”.

Attic vent looks like this picture. I thought they all had two of them.

Tony,
Look at the center front and center rear. You should have mushroom vents that look something like this...

Well, Bill beat me to it.

FYI - the screen shots below are from a 2020 factory tour video and show the "attic" just before the roof unit is hoisted and set on top of the RV. The white rectangle is an AC duct. The second screen shot shows them installing the batt insulation between the framing members. I suppose some air moves within the "attic" and needs to be vented…also I suppose the vents keep air pressure balanced when the attic space goes thru hot and cold cycles.

Thanks for clarifying - makes a ton of sense. I guess if I had water enter before I could duct tape it up, that I would have seen water marks on the ceiling.
Learning something new about my MHC is one of the reasons I like this forum so much.

Looks exactly like what I just installed. The rear one is the same albeit a little more dirty.

I replaced both of mine at about 10 years as they started to flake and chip. I just replaced the caps as the bases were in still good condition and well caulked. Simple job.

FYI, I learned to periodically check all of the plastic components up on the roof. Especially, after any type of hail storm or contact with any branches etc. Last year I had to replace my rear attic vent cover after a quick burst of hail hit me for a few minutes. once the storm had passed I immediately crawled up top to check for any damage and I was surprised that only the rear vent cover had shattered from the hail and nothing else? It sounded like a dump truck was spreading a load of gravel up above me...this year I just completed redoing the dicor for it was aging quickly.

I have the same unit and hitched height is almost 13’ 6”. B&W hitch at lowest setting (still enough rail clearance). I think they put a regular a/c unit on the front, not a low profile 🤦*♂️

Washed my roof off this weekend and the water hose must have bumped the “crispy” rear attic cap and chipped a piece off. Looking at the replacement below…does the broken top cap simply unscrew off the bottom unit? Or do you have to replace the whole unit, base and all + all new dicor self leveling all around? The photo below looks to be the whole unit.

I will spray paint the new cap to slow the UV degradation.

Simply unscrew the cap and replace it with the new one. As long as the base is still good very simple fix.
