Dometic 310/320 toilet info

Hello all,
Getting ready to replace our current Thedford toilet. I want to install the Dometic 320. When researching the numerous choices I noticed that the Dometic toilet has had a number of complaints of leaking inside the base from the seal that is used where the bowl connects to the base. Evidently most all people encountering this issue noticed water on floor seeping from the inside of base at floor. Bottom line was that water was dripping from the gasket at bowl and stand and was dripping down base to floor.
I decided on the Dometic because of the recommendations on this site. I just want to know if anyone on this forum has had this issue if so how did you fix it.
Thanks in advance for your reply
John Susan

Four of us installed the Dometic 320s four years ago all at one time. Todate, none of us have had any issue with seals leaking (or anything else). Best toilet going IMO.

We had Dometic 320 units in 2 different Montanas covering 8 years of full time use and NEVER a leak or any other problem. Be sure to get the sprayer!

I installed one 5 or 6 years ago and no problems. I added the sprayer head and a shutoff valve also. The sprayer makes it easy to clean up the toilet and the shutoff allows one to clean the gasket without shutting off water to the whole house.

Over 12 years of full timing we've only had a water problem once and that was on a new toilet. Dometic had some bad valves and it was no problem to get a replacement valve from them.

We love ours, and we agree get the sprayer. I had leaks from the teeny tiny factory supplied toilet…our 320 with spray has been perfect.

12 years with a 320

Our SOB (some other brand) has had a 320 in it since the day we bought it. I assume it was the original toilet so it's 16 years old!

In the time we've had it I've replaced the spud gasket twice and the bowl to pedestal gasket 4 times. If I had stuck to original Dometic/Thetford parts there would have been only 2 bowl gaskets.

So here's my advice. Don't buy cheap knock off parts. Even though working on the toilet is relatively easy it's still not a job you want to do often.

Also, I hooked up the hose and shutoff valve with Shark bite connectors. I had never used them before, but spent the big bucks and got the tool that both connects and removes the connectors. Made it super easy.

We replaced our Thetford with the 320 as soon as the foot valve began to stick. Thetford is notorious for that. Used the Sharkbite shut off valve with flex line to connect it. We have a hand sprayer in the shower right beside it so we didn't get the sprayer but would recommend it to others.
I may replace the seat with one that has soft landing though.
Very happy with this upgrade.

Can a residential soft close seat be used on the 320?

Yes, I just put one on Saturday. Purchased at Lowe's, standard residential and it fits perfectly.

We full time and the dw uses the facility nonstop the aqua flood let go so we went with a 320 then it leaked at the foot pedal. then it was replaced as that part is not fixable. The second made it 2 years then it failed again and again the foot pedal leak ( NOT CAUSED BY THE WATER VALVE). It was leaking through the shaft. so whats next. back to the aqua flood. I dont think so. so we went with a thetford aura deluxe 2. electric. been installed for the last 4 years and no problems at all. Just had to install a 12 volt electric to the toilet.

Cool Dometic 310 leak SOLVED

I was having occasional leaks of clear water around the base of our Dometic 310 toilet. I wasn't seeing it happen every time and it would go days without a leak and then all of a sudden I'd find a "Disney Water Show On The Floor"! Close inspections around the base found nothing until this morning...
I woke up to find a small amount of clear water around the base so I decided have a 24 hour stake-out. I sat there and flushed repeatedly until I found the answer...
The jets are VERY close to the top of the bowl rim. At one point, one jet at the very front of the bowl shot water UP at an angle, causing a small amount of clear water to spill over onto the floor. a-HA! I cleaned the jet with a Q-tip cut in half. I think a small amount of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) or mineral deposit was deflecting the jet stream. I cleaned the other jets and saw no more "Disney Water Shows".
I consider the issue closed BUT I may look into a flow-reducer in the toilet-only water line as the pressure at our campsite is high (I don't want to add a regulator for the entire 5th wheel at this time).

Jim,

If your park has high water pressure you need to use a pressure regulator or risk leaks and damage to your water system.
