Winegard Gateway GW 1000 4G LTE WIFI Router connection

I purchased this router and have been reading the manual as well as looking for you tube videos on how to install it. Everything shows it to be "easy peasy", but I pulled the bubble off the ceiling and found all the wires attached to it with a zip tie. The red and white wire is just a huge loop. Do I cut it and splice the power wire into that? The directions only talk about wires which have caps on their ends. I'm nervous about cutting those wires and customer support for anything, anywhere is extremely difficult. Any experience with this out there?

Using MOC search function with “ Winegard gateway prewire” and you’ll find information on same question. One option is to splice into those wires. You can pull the fuse before splicing. I describe the method I used in the other thread.

Thank you for everyone's response! I did learn from winegard to splice into the wires, but then I was faced with the dilemma of what wire to put with what wire. Montana has a red and a white wire and the winegard power cord comes with a red wire and a black wire. Winegard would not tell me which wire to put with which wire and told me to call Keystone. I called an electrician friend instead since Keystone has been pretty much useless in their customer service thus far. It was recommended that I connect the white wire to the black wire and the red wire to the red wire. The amber light flashes, so it gets power. I then called winegard to activate the SIM card. It is now functioning great. I'm hoping this helps others struggling to connect this thing. As a side note, Winegard's data plan is extraordinarily expensive. I only signed up for 10 gigs for $56. At AT&t I got 40 gigs for $75 and at Verizon I got 15 gigs for $20. However, after speaking with a rather grumpy winegard technician, she walked me through every step in detail. Once that was complete she seemed quite friendly. She gave me about an hour on the phone setting this up which was awesome.

What has your experience been with the Winegard 4GE LTE + Wifi? What data plan(s) are you using?

I was using an AT&T sim with 40GB of data for $75 per month, but Verizon just started some great data programs so I jumped over there.....150GB for $80 per month!

Does the Winegard 360 have the capability to provide WiFi service in truck while going down road?

One of the features of the Winegard is you can use either a SIM card or WiFi. We use a T-Mobile Hotspot connected via WiFi. It has 100gb per month for $55. We connect to the router via WiFi instead of a SIM card. Gives us more flexibility as we can take our hotspot anywhere. David, I would assume you can get service in your truck. We get reception inside our house.

We also use Verizon data with a SIM card in the Winegard Router. We pay $80/month for 150 gb of data. I stream shows and use the internet on my PC and tablets. Not cheap, but better than what's available from Winegard or other cell providers. We haven't had many issues while traveling in the Mid West and the South East states.

Thank you so much for the info Karin. We also have Verizon phone plans. Probably will get SIM card and a plan. Good to here about the reception out west. We are planning a trip this fall.

David, we also have Verizon, but no one at the time matched the T Mobile price. I could take the SIM card out and install in my Winegard and may in the future. Many don’t realize you don’t need a SIM card with the Gateway. You can connect to any WiFi or hot spot and broadcast your own SSID. As an added bonus, we can’t use our Verizon phones on the mountain because we don’t have signal. But the T Mobile receives at the house.

One more data point for you...

We use an ATT prepaid sim card. 100GB for $55

Neither of our cell phones have unlimited data plans (old plan, but cheap) so we connect to the Winegard router when going down the road...

We decided to go with Verizon plan since that is our phone service, but cannot connect our phones and IPad. Our Laptop works great. I have called Verizon and on phone 1 hour and was told to call Apple, on another hour. No one could help, they have no ideal what to do. One reason they don’t understand about the Winegard Gateway. I have researched Google and know others have had issues, but cannot find a resolution. Anyone know what we need to do ?

Tricky, excuse me if I ask some basic questions. I assume you have gone into the Winegard app, selected Sim and showing your SSID is being broadcast. Does the Winegard SSID not show up on the other devices? I use the T-Mobile MiFi as my source. It’s name is Mountain. It then gets received by the Gateway as the source and rebroadcasts as Quattro. It would help to know exactly what isn’t happening.

Thanks for replying Rames.
I have the Winegard App on my IPhone and have set up my log in, it goes as far as "Scan for Devices" and cannot go any farther, no devices will show. I have tried this several times. I thought was due to not being able to connect to the Winegard Gateway. This has been very frustrating. I have watched the YouTube videos and all goes like it should until the point of not showing and devices. Apple wanted me to restore devices to factory settings and reload everything, do not want to do that!!. She even did a diagnostic test on my phone and said nothing at all wrong with my phone. Verizon and Apple techs were lost as to what I was talking about as far as Winegard Gateway. Thank you so much for any information that might resolve this issue.

You don’t want to scan devices. You want to select Sim as your internet source. If you have further issues, intact Winegard while in your Montana. Here is the page:

Thanks Rames, I would attach picture of screen if I could figure out how to attach on the forum. I cannot get to the screen you posted. It is after it ask to scan QR code or “ Continue without scanning”. I think you are correct about contacting Winegard. Need to make sure all the numbers are right, hopefully just an error when info put in. Thanks so much for your time.
