2014 3402RL Quiet Air Conditioner not Cooling

We bought our 3402 last year from an older couple and they mentioned that the main cabin AC was slow to cool but did work. I was Leary but went ahead and purchased it anyway. Come to find out that this thing does come on but does not cool almost at all. I was told that these AC units are not rechargeable but wanted to reach out to the group for a more informed answer before
I shell out more $$$.

I tried to search for air conditioners but I was directed to Google and did not want to go outside our the forum. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I think they're sealed units and non-serviceable. Could be wrong.

This is what I've heard. Yes they are sealed with no recharge port, BUT if you can find the right AC Tech I understand they can cut the line and add a recharge port. Don't know how true that is, but might be worth making some inquires.

I just looked on youtube at placing a recharge port on a sealed AC unit and it seems pretty straight forward. Is there something that I am missing? I would try this all day versus spending 2K on a new unit. Thoughts? Has anyone done this before?

The problem with installing a recharge port - if the freon leaked out before, it will probably leak out again. ??????

RV techs call them throwaways and replacement required. Before I did any of that, I would check my ducting for blockage. If the unit is running for a while, and no condensation is dripping down the outside of the trailer, likely the compressor has failed.

the condensation does not run continuously out of the down spout. It seems as if it builds up and pumps it out once it reaches a certain level. I honestly do not know. I just am trying to resolve it without spending money that we just do not have at this time.

There are no signs of any leaks from the AC unit either.

If you have a tech do it, he will draw a vacuum on it first. If the vacuum leaks that will tell you there is a leak somewhere. He can determine at that time if its worth chasing and fixing the leak.
Still cheaper to try than just throw away.
Open the cover yourself and give it a good cleaning first so you can see whats going on. Look for potential leak sites (staining).
BTW, lots of YouTube videos showing DYI service port tap installs.

We have a 2013 3402RL...recently installed SoftStart RV units on both the A/C's...discovered when installing these that the "RUN CAPACITOR" leads on the front A/C were wired in reverse of what they should have been. This caused the unit to not create cool (er) air as the capacitor was not "kicking" in after the fan motor started. You can easily check this yourself...remove the cover of the unit in question, look at the top of that run capacitor. The White wire should be connected to the "C" terminal, the Red wire (there might be 2 wires here) should be connected to the "HERM" terminal. A Brown wire should be connected to the "FAN" terminal. Our units are the Dometic Brisk I and II units...13.5K in front and 15K in the living room area.

Another thing with any of these A/C units is, the filter needs to be kept clean, and at least yearly, the evaporator core, (the inside radiator) needs to be cleaned, because even when maintaining the inside filter, there will be buildup on the fins and this can ultimately block much of the air which will severely reduce the cold air going inside the rig.

I have a 2014 3402rl. You should be able to tell if the compressor is running by simply listening to it. What I have done to improve the cooling in our 3204rl is as follows: clean everything you can access that has to do with ac both inside and on the roof, next, remove the celling return vents in the rl area, then use 1 1/4" pvc pipe in the longest sections that you can push up into the return ducks to open them up. I replaced the the 4x10 filters with 6x12 filter frames and home type filters. I also put the pvc pipe in the bedroom duct as the ductwork front to back is tied together. If you partially close off the front a.c. vent it will force more air from the front a.c. to the back of the rv. Hope some of these suggestions help.

I've heard that finding the right AC tech might get you a recharge port but at the end of the day, by the time you pay for the parts, new refrigerant and the tech's time, you may very well be at the price of a new AC.
