Wet bolt

Hi all,

I have a wet bolt that is not accepting grease. Tried a grease buster to no avail. Could someone tell which bolt to purchase for a 2019 3791 RD?

EDIT: The wet bolt I need is on the spring side. Not the equalizer but if I could get the size of bolt for that as well I would appreciate it.

On my trailer, the wet bolts that are used in the spring hangers that are welded to the trailer frame are shorter than the wet bolts that are used in the equalizer brackets. You may have to let the brain trust here know which bolts are not taking the grease.
First try to grease it with the weight removed from the wet bolt by lifting the wheels off the ground using the level up jacks.

I tried greasing with no weight as well. Bought a grease buster and still no luck. Let me edit my original post to state which bolt I’m referring to.

On my trailer (7000# Dexter axles) the bolts that pass through the spring brackets welded to the trailer frame (front spring eye, equalizer eye and rear spring eye are 9/16" x 2 7/8", (shoulder is 2 5/16", threaded end is 9/16" of thread making the total length the 2 7/8") nut is 7/16"-20.
The longer bolts for the Road Armor trailair shackle plates are 9/16" x 3 3/8", Shoulder is 2 13/16", thread is the same.

Before you spend money replacing the wet bolt try removing it and cleaning out the grease passage with a thin wire. It may just be hardened grease stopping it up. On the other hand it doesn’t hurt to have a spare.

I thought by using the grease buster it would resolve that. Could grease get that hard that it would defeat the grease buster?

It could or it could be a zerk fitting issue. I would get the spares, replace the culprit and then try to clean it out. If successful, you'll then have another spare.

Anyone know the size of the zerk fittings? I want to order some 90 degree fittings to make it easier to access with the tires/wheels on.

Another question on the subject.
All my wet bolt zerk's are on the tire side (a pain to get to), can the bolts be reversed so the zerk is on the inside?

Check to make sure the holes for the grease in your bolt are positioned at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position. If they are at the 12 and 6 o’clock, your grease will be blocked by the weight force of the trailer. Lots of folks have never checked to make sure the bolts are in the correct orientation. I would check that first before buying a new bolt.

That’s what happened to me on my 2014 3850FL, I called the company and they told me that same thing. Problem solved!👍🏻🇺🇦☮️✌🏻

I have a 3791RD. I have this problem all the time. As stated above, remove the bolt, and I use a very tiny drill bit with my fingers to run into the hole and dig out all the hard grease. That will fix it. If you need a new bolt kit order direct from MORryde. The wet bot kit # U012-016 was $107.99 It comes with everything. Bushings, bolts, side plates. Ect. Make sure you install the grease hole at 3 or 9 o'clock position inside the bushing. I always carry wetbolts, bushings, nuts for the suspension. I have broken a bolt every year since I have had this unit. I just ordered independent suspension, disc brakes, and shock absorbers. I upgraded to the #8000 lb. axles. This won't change my gross weight, but will allow me more confidence in my axles. All to be installed next year. I can't wait. Good Luck. I'm sure once you remove the bolt you will see the bushing is almost wore thru as well. Look it over good.

Wet bolts DO get clogged and need cleaning every so often. Doesn't hurt to have spares.

Wet Bolts Not Accepting grease

I know this is an older thread and it pretty much explains the situation I am in and how to correct it.

I can't get any grease in any of my wet bolts, looks I will need to rotate them so the grease port is in the proper orientation.

Here are my questions:

I see on the bolt that there is a knurled end that would keep the bolt from spinning. Based on that I am guessing I will have to completely remove the bolt to rotate it?

Any pointers/short cuts that will speed the process up?

I think I know the answers but would love to hear and learn from your experience. I am guessing I will be buying the bronze bushings and just going through the whole thing but would really like to get some grease in if possible.

Thanks in advance, Dan

The hole should be orientated at 3 or 9 o'clock position. I took my wet bolts out and held a tiny drill bit in my fingers and cleaned out the hole by hand. It worked really well. The bushings were worn out on mine twice in 5 years. I grease twice a year too. I bought a complete kit from Morryde and always carry it with me. Wet bolt kit #U012-016 $107.99. Torq to #50 ft lbs. Morryde phone (574)-293-1581 X1212
The bolt will have to be pressed out - Or pounded out without damaging the threads.
I'm installing independent suspension and disc brakes in June for this exact reason. I'm tired of fixing wet bolts. I've had 2 break in half and could have lost a spring if it would have fell out.
You can also change the zerk fitting to help get grease in. Sometimes they get clogged up with road grime.

If they do you're not greasing it enough.
