Sailun recall

just wondering how many of us are affected by this:

NHTSA Recall ID Number : 21T018
Synopsis : Sailun Tire Americas, Inc. (Sailun) is recalling certain Sailun, RoadX, Blacklion, Blackhawk, and Ironhead brand tires, sizes ST235/80R16 and ST235/85R16 with DOT codes 2020 through 4120. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tires may experience a belt separation. Belt separation could lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Sailun will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in December 2021. Owners may contact Sailun customer service at 1-844-281-9696.

I have a set of four with a little over 5,000 miles.....wow!!!!!!! Now I suppose they will be replaced by those made in Vietnam.

Ours are among the recalled tires. I have not received anything yet from Sailun or Dealer but plan to call dealer next week. Our next trip is not until Feb so hope to get all four replaced well before then.

The recall is for 2020 thru 4120 of the tires from Vietnam. That date range from China is ok, as I understand it. Mine are in that date range but from China. I lucked out I guess.

It is the Vietnamese tires that are being recalled, not the China ones that Montana ships with the RV

Nope, not mine..

DOT. 1YJ 4920 made in Vietnam.

However, I did move it to the spare tire position before this road trip, and put the spare (made in China) on the axle.

Mine are on the recall list. They were made in China. Dealer is ordering them tomorrow (Monday).

Recall

I just replaced 4 tires in March 2021 and have 3 of the four within the recall window. The other is one week out of the date range. Sailun said to go through the retailer where I bought the tires. Bought these online through Walmart however they no longer carry my size tire in the Sailun brand.

Waiting to hear back from Sailun cause I don’t want to go with a different brand cause I would have to buy 5 tires to also replace the spare.

We just received our new set of 4 Sailuns a couple days before our return to Mexico last month. All I had time for was to put them in my storage. I don’t remember the date code on them but did notice they were manufactured in Viet Nam…..
Guess I will find out in March. I did get the recall letter from Simple tire last week.

The recall letter is very specific that it only applies to the Vietnam manufactured tires. The China ones are OK

If your tires were made in China, they are NOT on the recall. Only the tires made in Vietnam, in the code date range of the recall letter.. I have 1 tire from Vietnam that missed the recall date by 6 weeks.

Most likely they will be made in Vietnam, however they will have the new steel belt package, which I believe are the same as the China made tires. By the way, anyone that had a failure of the recalled tires and had damage from the failure, Sailun will pay for those damages.

Your looking at the DOT Ply ratings. Look on the other side of the tire and you'll find the date code.

Yesterday, I received and email from Simpletire.com (where I purchased my tires) informing me of the recall and it also had a link for making a claim directly with Sailun. All my tires were made in China, so I'm not affected in the recall. However, my brothers tires were all on the recall list. As I told him, the recall is actually a very good thing! He will get a all new tires that could have otherwise cost him for replacement and potential damage to his trailer when the tread separated. Hopefully, Sailun did this voluntarily due to concern for customers safety and learned a very important lesson about controlling quality at their different tire plants.

Thanks. I was unaware of a Sailun tire recall. Pretty sure mine are Chinese. I replaced one due to a flat a year ago. I will go check them all.

Gubs we got a new set of four from the Vietnam plant back in May. I can't find any date codes on mine however. My DOT code is 1YJ 276PLY, but that's where the code ends. There is also a bar code but there is no 4 digit date code in the DOT number. Where did you find yours?

I had 4,800 miles on my Sailuns & Les Schwab switched them out today for (4) new ones. No Charge. Les Schwab knows all about the recall.

Thanks you guys. I missed that... sorry. We're heading out in two weeks for a three month trip. We've got a good TPMS, but if a tread separates the failure will potentially cause a lot of damage.
