Overnight at Cedar Island NC (beware of the water there). In the morning take the ferry to Ocracoke Island. Stay at the NPS Campground (dry camping, no hook ups at all). Tour the island. We have stayed there for weeks. Love it. The sun rises and sunsets are breath taking. Make sure your propane tanks are full before you go They have no refill on the island.
Take the ferry to Hatteras. Stay at the NPS Campground (dry camping). Tour. Check out the museum there (if you don't want to camp there the museum parking lot is big rig friendly if you want to tour it and walk around town. Head on up to Kitty Hawk. Big rig friendly parking lot at the Wright Brothers museum.
Then on up to VA Beach.
Check the Ferry website for reservations and schedule.

For Boston area, we stayed at Fourth Cliff and Hanscom Fam Camp. I know no help for you BUT, for touring, visit USS Constitution. Salem, Salem Witch trial museum (very sad when mobs rule).
Take a HoHo bus ride around downtown.
Tour Cape Cod. Provincetown is really neat.
You mentioned heading NE in the spring.
Bar Harbor Maine is fantastic. We stayed at Bar Harbor Campground. Closest to Acadia NP. In ANP they have 157 miles of hiking trails. 47 miles of Carrage roads (bike roads). We take our ebikes and go riding every day. We spent 2 months there. Loved it. Tour Schoodic Peninsula.
If you go up into Canada tour Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We spent two months up there. We will go again someday.
