We will be there this winter. Plan on arriving in January but don't know where we will be staying yet. Any suggestions on the area would be appreciated.

Steve and Betty: Check out the Rio Grande Valley. Mission or McAllen Texas have quite a few sites you can spend as long or as short a stay as you want. If you make up your mind drop into their websites and explore.

Al and I hope to be in Donna, Victoria Palms, sometime after mid January. Please note HOPE! Much depends on how his mother's health is, and of course, if we can get a site for that late in the season. We loved the Rio Grande Valley!!

faeb and genb
Well, February is their busy month (of course, chuckle chuckle, who wants to be in Michigan in February?? GULP), but there were a few sites open. Not many! Trouble is that the first 2 campgrounds we called would not take our $$ with 4 yorkies attached! No problem, they don't want my yorkies and my $$, I don't want to stay at their park !
But, as you point out, there are a LOT of campgrounds in the area, and we will find something. Hope it is Victoria Palms!

Pretty sure we will be at Port Isabel,TX around 1st of Feb 05. Last year we stayed at City Center and all was as expected. My Brother-in-law and cousin will be in Texas before us, and may decide to stay farther up the valley, which would be closer to the places we like to visit, so I will leave it up to them to pick the place. Both have newer Class A motor homes and they dont staying by the water because of the salt. Ron

We will be in Donna, Texas at Victoria Palms the month of January. This will be our first extended stay in Texas. Victoria Palms came highly recommended to us at the Rally by Bob and Mary Kay. So excited, can hardly wait.
Carol: We sometimes have a difficult time finding places as well with our two pets --our mild mannered cocker and our devil winnie dog -- it can be frustrating. I don't know anything about these partks, but have you tried Pauls RV Park in Brownsville; Americana RV Park or Mission Gardens Resort in Mission; Magic Valley RV Park in Weslaco. Good luck in finding a park that will take the entire family! Hope to see you in Texas!!

Vic, Al started calling parks when we were close to the area, the first two turned us down, Victoria Palms said, COME ON DOWN! We did, stayed for 6 weeks and 3 days, they had to drag us out, we did not want to leave! You will have a great time there!! So much to do and so little time!
If you see a big Montana pull through about mid January, come see if it is us! (Oh, you will have a big Montana too, well, fancy that! )
I think Bob and Mary Kay said they were leaving Tuesday (like tomorrow) after they vote! I might be envious!

Carol - Last year when you were at VP where you in the new addition? Supposedly the park has been expanded with wider/longer sites. Its encouraging to hear that you were able to extend your stay -- just in case we run into the situation of so much to do and so little time.

Carol Mission West was a lot more pet friendly than Blue Bonnet. We have a small Manchester terrier & he needs to run. They had a open field behind our camper & said as long no one complained let him go. Never had a problem. Vickster I am almost sure we were in V P campground last winter. One of the men who owned a park model there sold all of his wood for wood-carving & we bought some from him.

Vic, yes we were in the new addition, I think the site was 2151B. Just down the road from the new activities building.
faeb and genb, I'll remember Mission West, or I'll come back on the forum and do a search! Thanks for the headsup on that.

We are very likely going to Rio Grande Valley after Christmas for the winter. We have not yet made a reservation, but are leaning towards a place called Bentsen Palm Village near Mission TX. It seems to be an attractive and pet friendly place. We'll check out some of the others that have been mentioned here because we do not know that area at all.

Sharran and I will be in Texas, probqably around the New Year. If you're travelling west from Donna if you get over to Business 83 rather than on Express 83, you'll find all kinds of RV Parks. Almost all are pet friendly..although most require they be on leashes. Two campgrounds of the 8-10 in the Mission area are Mission Bell and Trade Winds RV parks and farther west is Spit Rail Park. There are literally dozen of parks in this area.

This whole area has many sites for you to choose from. We have been going down to the Valley for 5 years and love it. VP is a nice place but there are also many more that are nice too.

We have friends that stayed at Tropic Star in San Juan last year. It is part of a large corporation that have about 4 parks in the area. Go into their website and look it up.
