The first day I had my new Tana I retracted the legs to the max and blew the fuse. Like everyone else, I now have a nice mark to indicate it is time to stop. My dealer didn't have any 30 amps handy, so he gave me some 20 ampers, which he said would probably blow sooner than later, so I went to another Keystone dealer down the road to pick up a spare, and they gave me a bunch of 30 ampers just in case I had a mental lapse again at no charge, so if you are ever in my area and need a 30 amp, I can sure fix you up. (I replaced the 20 with a 30 just in case).

Glen,
Where would you find a 40amp auto reset fuse (circuit breaker) for the landing gear?

Ozz, The Tana is going in Monday to Beaudry for the fireplace, and couple other things. Then off to the CAT scale down the road for a weight cert. to register it in Texas. Tuesday CW puts the Tracvision R4 on, and then Thurd. getting the transfer flow tank installed, Sunday off for the Arizsona Non-res. cancealed weapons permit class (in case I have to shoot the new fireplace if it doesn't work). Then we should be good to go.

After going out in the snow and looking at the electric panel again, I have to say that I would NEVER put an 80amp fuse any place in my Montana. We were all at the same factory tour and saw the wires they use on the 120 and 12volt lines. Both the slide and landind gear are 12volt and should have a 40amp max fuse/breaker installed. I guess I would rather install a new fuse or trip a breaker than burn up the wireing on worse yet, my Montana. Electrical wires are funny, they don't always start melting where you can see it! The more I think about this, my advise would be just don't do it! Then again, that is only my opinion too.

You got that right Steve. I don't know why anyone would recommend replacing a fuse or circuit breaker with one twice the size. This is just asking for trouble and a fire could be very likely happen. I was on that same plant tour that you are referring to and I didn't see any 12V wiring capable of handling 80 AMPS. Like you my advise is also DON'T DO IT!!! but if you do keep your insurance agents phone number handy but before calling him get rid of the evidence and don't tell him what you did.

Yet MIMF2 suggested you do just that with the slide fuse. Replace with a larger fuse or put two in line???????Any one remember that??? Lippert makes the slides, motors, pumps, etc..not Keystone..

I haven't checked the amp draw on the landing gear motor, but I imagine it's around 25 amps. I think that's 10 gage wire, so 30 would be about right. On the slides, I haven't looked at that, has anyone checked it's amp draw? It's electric-hydraulic, a different animal altogether.

Yes, Lippert makes the slides, motors and pumps, but Keystone wires them and I still stick with the don't do it. I guess I don't want to step on anyones toes so I will drop anymore reactions to this post.

Do a search..I am sure that Dale(MIMF2) recommended replacing the 40 amp slide fuse with a 80 amp fuse or 2 in line 40 map fuse and that the surge was in excess of 70 amps. I sort of figured he was more of a expert on the slides than anyone at Keystone.

Ok, so I'm going to reply again anyhow. Rich, you said Dale made the recommendation, are you two going to be responsible for the damage or fires caused by overloading the wires? I'm not arguing that Dale knows more than Keystone about what Lippert builds for them, but I don't think Dale is going to recommend putting a penny in to fix a blown fuse. And really, where did the original topic go that it ran into using 80amp fuses?

Hummm. You are correct..the topic was about the landing gear fuse..perhaps I miss understood what Dale was saying..I am feeble minded you know and a old guy..The good news is I have not installed the 80 amp slide fuse.. Don't think I will till I can get some good information...As for the landing gear fuse it is the original although I got a spare.

You guys are starting to confuse me...'course sometimes that's not hard to do. The landing gear comes with a standard 40 amp fuse, you blow it you have to replace it. The slides have a built in resetable fuse of 30 or 40 amps, don't know which. Right??

We are talking about two different things here..My landing gear fuse is a standard auto type fuse of 40 amps. The slide fuse is the reset able block type 40amp fuse..Cat320..you are correct....I think I started the confusion by mixing up the fuses although I did a post saying so . I never meant to say that the LANDING GEAR fuse should be replaced with a larger fuse..although my original post where I mixed up the fuses said just that.I need a root beer....

If I may insert...an 80A circuit shud have at minimun, 8AWG wire (that's a good size wire), better to run a 6AWG for less voltage loss. I sure can't remember seeing anything that big except for the ones running directly from the batt to whereever it goes.
I'm not trying to be critical, just a safety (as in FIRE) issue. As the monster said, "Fire Baaaad!"

I wrapped a piece of black electrical tape around the landing gear shaft so it was easy to see where to stop retracting the gear especially by my best helper!

This is interesting. My landing gear motor circuit came with a 20-amp fuse installed and it kept blowing as the motor got warm. On my own, I replaced it with a 30-amp DC fuse and it has never failed since I put it in back in 2000.
