All new (to us), truck and camper

Well, in the span of a month and a half we went and purchased a F350 and a 2017 Montana High Country 353. Only our second camper and our first 5th wheel. Such a learning curve owning a 5th wheel compared to a simple travel trailer. I know the rear end looks squatted a little bit. There are airbags installed, and I have an appt to have an onboard air compressor installed. The camper had everything I was looking for, and it is really enjoyable to live in. I hope to learn much from this site.

Welcome aboard! And nice rig. The air bags and compressor will be a nice add...we had that setup on our SRW and it helped a lot.

Congrats and enjoy!

Do yourself a favor, if the installer is penetrating metal with the wiring, make sure the wires are triple insulated!!! I learned the hard way and it cost me dearly with time money and aggravation. Wire was getting an intermittent short freaked out the computer, kept going into limp mode ...

Will do. Parts came in today. Will talk with them about installation.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Truck and camper are new to my wife and I…..meaning all new territory. We’ve owned many half-tons and a travel trailer. It’s an all new learning curve and experience.

Congratulations on the new setup. I put the AirLift wireless air compressor on my truck and really love it. Different settings on the remote are saved for when running empty or loaded down. You can't beat it.

As a new owner of a fifth wheel, here's some advise. Always be aware of tail swing when driving forward and reverse. When you turn right, watch the rear of the trailer in the right mirror. Same when turning left, watch in your left mirror.

When pulling into a camp site or navigating in tight situations, before you drive Get Out And Look (G-O-A-L).

rsee03,
Welcome to the MOC and congrats on a great set up.

Our first fiver, 35' SOB had an F250 for the TV that came with air bags that helped alot. After issues with the truck I traded it in for an F350 crew cab and transferred the air bags and aux fuel tank. I discovered I really didn't need the air bags with the 350.
Upgraded the fiver to our current 3731FL and a new F350 back in 2017. You didn't give the year of the truck but the picture looks like at least a 17 and with the HC being a bit lighter than ours you should have no issues with or without air bags.
You'll find a lot of helpful friends on this forum. Enjoy the new rig and have many wonderful miles.

Welcome to the world of owning a 5th wheel RV. We love ours! May I share some thoughts from someone who has many miles under their belt towing 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers...?

When you install the airbags, be certain the trailer is sitting as level as possible when towing. I lowered my hitch in the bed of my truck to accomplish this! I run without airbags, but all is good with my tow vehicle - 2016 Dodge Ram. Nonetheless, I will install them prior to a log trip we have planned to smooth out the ride.

Second thought. Practice!!! The 5th wheel will turn a bit different and cheat on turns and corners. Many new owners to the 5th wheel group can share stories where they turned a bit short or failed to swing wide on a corner and bumped into something or had their trailer wheels go off the road!

Enjoy!!
