ATS recommendations?

Looking to replace my PD52DCSD ATS and just want a simple, quiet ATS without the EMS functions that the current unit has. I have a hardwired Watchdog for EMS. Looking for input from users that are happy with their ATS choice. Thanks in advance.

Rip, do you have a built in generator? Do you really need the transfer switch? Granted ours is the Super Solar, but the only reason we had the PD transfer switch was the EMS. We simply added the Watchdog as a replacement. Magnum makes good ATS if you do need one.

Ron,

I do have the Onan 5500 and I feed my Victron Multiplus II 2x120v 3kva inverter from the ATS output. I've not seen any larger amperage ATS from Magnum. I'll look into them.

Rip, did some searching. Go Power is well respected and they have one, but it’s pricey. E-trailer has that and a few others. You may want to call them. Also, CW has a sale on TRC (I believe), but doesn’t have a great review - noisy.

Ron,

Consolidation being typical of the RV has TRC now owned by Southwire (aka Surge Guard) and Go Power owned by Dometic! Both have mixed reviews (on the straight ATS w/o any EMS). Hoping to hear from someone who bought one and is happy with it.

My PD52DCSD opened shore on a low voltage condition and did not close until I cycled the power at the pedestal. The low wasn't enough for the Watchdog to shut down power (according to the log), so it concerns me (we were away from the rig and the Watchdog would have notified me). I happened to be showing a friend some Victron VRM data and saw what was going on, so I could remotely shut down air until we got back to the rig (at which time the PD52DCSD display showed green on shore but no power to the inverter until I cycled the shore power at the pedestal). This is probably why PD doesn't sell this unit anymore (they still sell the non-EMS variants).

I haven’t heard the complaints on the Southwire like the PD. That is what Keystone went to, but it does have the EMS. Let us know what you go with. Our PD failed to latch several times and my batteries wouldn’t charge. Fortunately, I don’t have an onboard generator with the solar. In fact, after changing one setting, we didn’t run our generators at all. Love the watchdog. How are you able to monitor it while away?

Southwire does make a unit w/o EMS and I think it was formerly the TRC unit.

To monitor Watchdog remotely I use RV Whisper (rvwhisper.com). It can do other things as well. Mine does a canin temp and propane levels (though I had a Mopeka vateway which gives me remote access to propane levels and alerts).

Interface is a little hokey but there are some detailed drill down data functions too:
