Congrats! You will need to "Show-Me". I know you are starting to full time but I grew up very close to Grandview.

Lynwood,
I got rid of my Champion 3400 dual inverter generator, it was to heavy to lift100lb. I got me a Champion 2500 dual inverter generator it weighs only 40 lb. My new inverter will assist the 1850 watts from the generator with another 1850 watts, so I can actually run anything I could run with my bigger generator.

Zack, are you going down to Quartzite this winter for Montana get together? I might go there this year.

Mini splits are AWESOME!

I have one in my wood shop, and it does a great job of controlling the temp in there.

In fact, I have the same model you do, except a larger version in my shop. How are you going to open that front cover to clean the filters? I don't know how often that needs to be done in a residential setting, but in my shop, especially if I'm sanding a lot, I have to clean that filter once a week.

Love the idea!!!

I have screws coming in from the side of the divider, real easy to take off. Not the best solution, but I want to be able to close those doors when not using the mini split. I am not going to run the Ac/heatpump all the time only when needed, so I shouldn't have to clean the filters to often.

That sounds like a workable solution. I figured you had to have a way to deal with that.

I assume this is one of those units that you can install yourself without getting a licensed AC installer to come out and charge it?

While you clean the filter you also need to clean the fan. Dust collects on it and hampers the air flow. The one in our living, dining room will cool and heat the room but when it collects dust it won’t move air all the way across the room leaving the other side of the room too cold or hot.

Yeah part of my future cleaning routine us to blow the entire unit out. It is probably not ideal in my shop, but it does work...

You can see the blower from under the front of the unit. I use a air gun with a long nozzle about 6 inches with a hole in it about .16 ID to blow it out.

Lynwood,
my heatpump use between 1400-1500 watts on the highest setting which is Turbo mode on my unit. On the lowest fanspeed it use about 900 watts.
I dont know how many watts it will use to maintain the temperature.
I use it only 1-2 hours in the morning to heat up the trailer otherwise my batteries would go to low.

Thanks. Our 15000 BTU unit in the camper pulls about 1400 watts. It’s 23 here this morning and the unit in our living room is pumping out 125 degree air. We put in a new sliding glass door in the front of our house the mini split is in the back of the room. It is R9 with 3 pains of glass with krypton gas. It stays the same temperature as the wall while the 2 pain windows stay 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the wall.

These units come with all the refrigerant you need inside the condenser (outside unit). The only tricky part for most non HVAC people is getting a vacuum pump to pull all moisture and air out of the system. These units are available and shipped to anyone with a debit/credit card. Buy these in the winter as they tend to be a little cheaper when demand is low.

This is the unit that I installed in my shop, and it didn't require any vacuuming of the line sets. Both the condenser and the evaporator come precharged, with the line sets attached to the evaporator. The evaporator lines have a one-way valve on them, and a coupling that seals as you tighten it, so no gas escapes. Then you open some valves on the condenser and you're all done.

They work really really slick...

Lynnwood,
I told you my mini split used 1400 watts on Turbo.
Update: Today I am in Quartzite and 44 outside Temperature, I decided to run it at 65 inside. After getting up to 65 degrees it draws only between 300-350 watts. My solar panels can easily supply that and charge the batteries at the same time.

Thanks my 15000 BTU AC in my camper pulls about 1400 watts. BIG DIFFERENCE. And you stay more comfortable.
