Propane use
Just in case you are traveling in frigid temps and due to inclement weather have to spend additional days at a campground, like we are. Here are some bits of information on propane usage.
1 gal. of propane weighs 4.2 lbs.
A 30 lb. tank holds 7 gallons of propane.
1 gal. of propane burns 100,000 BTUs per hour.
So for example: A 30,000 BTU propane furnace will burn 1/3 gallon per hour.
Now you can plug in your furnace size and calculate how long you can heat your rig before having to refill. Keep in mind using the stove or oven will reduce the heating time. (We're using the microwave.) lol

That's why we assist the furnace with a couple of electric heaters. If it's below freezing we make sure that the furnace comes on every so often to keep the pipes from freezing.

We have done very well in staying out of frigid or even very cold temps for the last 10 years. We use the furnace for heat nothing else. We usually run the fridge and hot water tank on electric. We change to propane every once in awhile to make sure everything works.
We filled a propane tank in Aug of 2015 and just filled one last week as it has been a very warm winter here in Florida. In a "normal" Florida winter we use @ one tank of propane a month.

We've used the furnace, fireplace and an electric space heater for the past three nights. After the first two nights we had only used 5.1 gals. Of propane. Currently in Connersville, TN heading for southern AL this morning.

After a long summer in the heat and endless rain here in Naples, its nice to get a little cold weather. Its crazy we came from Sault Sainte Marie Michigan and had to wait for a little warm weather and now its wait for a little cool weather. Wow talk about day and night.

36 degrees and enjoying the rving lifestyle is tough alright. We would gladly pay for an extra two or three tanks of propane and many more if we were able to be in a climate right now that allowed us to actually use our Montana.

When I boondock, in the mountains it was down to around 30 degrees at night. My furnace runs about 1/2 the time or a little more.
I used the calculation of 1/3 gal per hour a tank only lasts 21 hours, or a little under a day. But I knew I could get more than one day, so then it dawned on me about time running the furnace.
So at half time for 12 hours a day, it would last 3-4 days for one tank. Which is what I get, if I recall correctly.

We heard that .It is below zero and much snow in Northern Ohio. We spent many years plowing snow and fighting sub zero weather. It is good to be roughing it in Florida.
