Filling Gas bottles on 295 RL
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to check with you longtime 5'ers regarding filling your 30# gas bottles? How do you remove the tanks from your rig? Or are they supposed to be removed or filled in place?
Thanks for any advice that can be provided!

I have a 2955RL, and I always take mine out to fill them. At 75, I’m finding it harder to replace them when full, but I just think it’s safer that way.

Unless the 295 is different than any other Montana fifth wheel, there should be two straps around the propane tank. I will assume you are new to this, so I apologize if I am being too basic. Before removing your tank, on the driver side tank there is a changeover valve. The knob on top points to the active tank. If you are only filling one tank, turn the knob toward the other tank. Then, shut off the empty tank, unscrew the hose, remove the straps and take the tank to be filled. When returning, do those steps in reverse. Open the valve slowly. If you run out of propane completely, you may need to bleed the lines by turning the burners on on your stove. One last thing, there is a great device called Mopeka that will track your propane levels via your phone. You can find it on Amazon.

I am pretty sure you have only one strap. I had a 2006 2980, which was almost the same unit but a different layout. Sometimes the strap is a bit hard to unhook and hook back up.

Tom, I guess something else different between Montana and High Country. All the newer Montana’s have two straps. I figured it was a new law.

Scattershot, what year? All of mine only had one until 2021. I know all the other 2021 Montana’s I’ve seen had two.

I guess I got mixed up with Scattershot's 2955 from 2005 and RamMike's 295HC. I was referring to the older Monties.

I’m 74 and every year they get heavier. Just picked up two 30# tanks, brand new for $50. A guy with a new 5er switched to 40# tanks. No reason for them but were full and fit nice in my garage for an emergency.

They will not fill the bottles while in the camper. You have to take them out to be filled.

Our MHC has the two straps per bottle as well. If we didn't have two on ours, I would have added the 2nd one for peace of mind when traveling.
