Refrigerator Question
We are getting ready to head south for the winter in our new 2018 Montana 330 and I am curious about the refrigerator, is there any problem keeping it on while traveling? Thanks in advance for any comments.

We never keep ours on and even in 105 degree days in Arizonia have no problem with it getting too warm.

But if we stop for any length of time we turn it off, we do not operate ours off-level.

If it runs on propane, you can leave it on. The experts say it is not a good idea traveling with propane on, because if the fridge sparks to ignite, and you are at a gas station, there could be a problem. Having said that, we always travel with ours on, and a poll I saw online once showed at two thirds of people do.
If it is a residential fridge, I cannot offer any advice.

If it's a residential reefer you might want to make sure your batteries are in good shape. I've tested ours in the driveway in 60 degree ambient temps with no 120vac hooked to 5r and the inverter ran it ~36 hours b4 dropping the battery vdc down to the cut out (10.5). That's really hard on a pair of 12 volt marine deep cycle brand X batteries.

3 way rv fridges set in the auto mode should be running off electric when hooked up to the truck and the truck is running.

Sometimes I travel with the fridge on propane mainly because I forgot to turn it off. If it is a sunny day I do run the fridge on electric and my solar keeps the batteries at full charge.

I have a residential and while traveling the TV keeps the inverter running OK. If I stop my single battery is good for about 8 hours if I'm not running anything else but the lights. Enough for an overnight at Wally's or a truck stop.

I have always traveled with my gas fridge running. Never experienced any problems. I was a fire investigator for about 30 years and can not recall a single fire in the fridge from doing this. I have investigated many RV fires in the area of the fridge and most were a result of a failed cooling system allowing the flammable gas to escape into the compartment with an open flame burning this is common with this type of fridge. The Dometic and Norcold recalls are a result of this occurring.Others were a result of electrical failures in the wiring running through the fridge compartment. By the way the recall repair does not stop the cooling system from failing, it just makes it a little harder for the gas to ignite if or when it does fail.

Halon extinguisher
In my last coach I installed one of these: https://rvcoolingunit.com/SS-30-Halo...-P1872453.aspx This coach had a dometic fridge which was up in years and I felt it was a prudent and safe move to make...I placed this in the outside vent area. In addition when we would pull into station for fuel I always shut off the fridge.

This looks like a good option for the propane fueled fridge!! If I had not changed to a residential I would certainly consider this or other like it!!
