Heat in Montana 3813ms
We are living full time in a 2021 Montana 3813ms and are hooked to 50 amp shore power. The power has been going out once or twice a week and each time when power is restored the thermostat is reset to off. This is a problem if I am not home or it is in the middle of the night - we wake up with no heat in the house. Can I get a different type of thermostat that will return the unit to the last mode (air conditioner or heat) when the power comes back on?

Heat in Montana 3813ms
I have a 2021 Montana Keystone 3813MS that we live in full time. The shore power has been going out about once or twice a week and each time the thermostat resets to "off". This becomes a problem when we are out during the day (we come home and the house is freezing) or at night when we are awakened to an ice cold house. Is there a thermostat that I can install that will return to the mode it was in when power is restored?

I'm wondering why it goes off at all. The TStat is powered by 12v so it should continue to run with or without shore power. Is your 12v switched off? Are your batteries OK? Do the lights, fridge, etc., continue to run without shore power?

No, if the shore power goes out everything is out.

Then you either have your battery disconnect in the wrong position or your battery is dead. If you've had the battery disconnect on for some time then you have probably killed the battery anyway.

Since the thermostat runs on 12v power your problem is your battery. It's dead or disconnected. If you can take the key out of the battery disconnect switch then the battery is disconnected and if it's been that way very long then your battery is also dead.

Thank you for all of the responses. When I got home I checked the battery disconnect and found it in the wrong position. Turned the key and - so far - problem solved. So, thanks again. This 5th wheel is a new deal for us so still learning a lot of things about it.

Another item/tool needed by everyone with an RV - a volt meter. Then there is no doubt if the battery is bad. A simple check.

Glad it was a simple fix. One of the things new owners need to understand is what works off 12v (battery) and what is 120v (shore power). Since many people camp without shore power, they are self contained and meant to be lived in without shore power. Your furnace, water heater (gas or 120v), refrigerator (gas or 120v), landing gear, slides and most of the lights, for example are all on the 12v side. That runs off of your battery(ies). Another area new owners get in trouble with is that very switch that is referred to as the battery disconnect. It only shuts some stuff off. In addition to the landing gear, the CO detector also will drain your battery. If you are going to be somewhere without power you can remove the negative wire to avoid your battery draining. Best of luck and welcome to the MOC.
