I have several that are hard to get to without pulling the tires. I bought a Lock-n-lube coupler and even an expensive 90 degree fitting, but it is still hard to reach a few of them. I've read elsewhere that some turn the bolt around so that the zerk is exposed from underneath to make this job easier.

It does not matter which way you install the wet bolts. You can install them whichever way makes them easier to get at. My grease gun set up JUST fits on the zerks behind the tires, they will be getting switched when/if I change bolts and bushings someday.

Thanks, Mark. I thought I had read that somewhere, but just wanted to be sure. I may change mine around at the next service. I really want to check them anyway in case any have worn out bushings or broken bolts like above.

You could do that but I wouldn't recommend it. But there's an easier fix for that situation. Just remove the zerk fitting and replace them with 90-degree ones pointed whatever Direction you want. I did that when I had them and it made it much easier. You could also use 45 degree zerks

Hey that's a great idea. I wish I had thought of that.

Our Monty is a 2005 2955RL and this thread has really made me aware of some areas I need to check closely before we leave on our first outing, a 700 mile trip over the mountains. This trip is a test run for our 8000 mile round trip to the east coast. I'm having the wheel bearings packed next week and will make sure the suspension is inspected well. Should I be ordering spare parts to carry with me and are there any areas of concern I should know about?

I did that onmy 2008 Montana with good results. On my 2018 3791 I am able to get at the fittings by raising the trailer with the levelups and the wheels hang enough to get the grease gun on and grease enters easier when the weight is off of them.

I had my wet bolts removed and installed regular bolts. We have owned cars, trucks, trailers without eetbolts and never had a problem.
