Vent in bunk room
Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere, but I can’t seem to find the answer in my searches. We took delivery of a 385BR Montana HC a few months ago and have had it out a few times, which means I’ve been lucky enough to start finding its “issues”. One thing I came across was this vent in the bunk room that dumps air into the basement. Any idea why this is here? I can’t keep the bunk room cool without covering it up. Is there any reason I can’t just cover this up with a sheet of plastic to restrict airflow down into the basement?

Loft vents
I also found these vents up in the loft area. These appear to have a "filter" behind them. Any idea what these vents are for?

Both of your pictures are return air ducts.

Are they both for the furnace? Assuming it's safe to cover them as long as I'm not using the furnace?

They should be for the a/c. You can check by turning on the a/c.

Maybe a stupid question, but why would the cold air return be dumping into the basement in the bunk room? Is there a duct from the basement up to a return plenum in ceiling? The cold air return in the loft would make sense since the AC units are on the roof. Shame Keystone can't publish some drawings for these things.

It is hard to tell where the ducts are located just from the pics. I suspect they are at florr level. If so, then they will be heater return air ducts. Seal them off in the summer.

I did this sketch for a different thread topic - but your furnace return air is thru the louvered step risers. Your water heater is not located where mine is - so ignore it. Hot air comes into my living room from the basement in the summer - so I removed the wood riser vents and put some cardboard behind them to prevent the warm air intrusion. I will remove the cardboard come winter.

The first picture is in the bunk room near the floor. My assumption is that is the return to the furnace. The second picture is in the loft area. I put a sheet of paper up against the one in the loft area and it appears there's no airflow.

Took the grill off in the bunk room near the floor and looked around behind the wall. The furnace and hot water heater were behind there right behind the convenience center. Definitely would say those vents in the bunk room were hot air returns for the furnace. I cut some plastic sheeting to the size of the vents to block of the air flow during the summer months. Hopefully that will help keep the room cool.
Still not sure what the vents are in the loft. Will have to take those off and crawl up there at some point.
