"Free" Google Information Service
Leave it to Google to come up with something like this! Here's a number worth putting in your cell phone or your home phone speed dial: 1-800-goog-411. This is an awesome service from Google ... and it's free -- great when you are on the road.
Don't waste your money on information calls and don't waste your time manually dialing the number. Here's an example of how it works. I'm driving along in my car and I need to call the golf course but don't know the number. I hit the speed dial for information
that I've programmed ... 1-800-goog-411.
The voice at the other end says, 'City & State.' I say, Venice , Florida ..' He says, 'Business, Name or Type of Service.' I say, Firewheel Golf Course.' He says, 'Connecting' and Firewheel Golf Course answers the phone. How great is that? This is nationwide and it is absolutely free!
If you have internet service click on the link below and watch the short clip for a quick demonstration. http://www.google.com/goog411

John,
Yep, just another great service from google. We look forward to every single new release from them. It is amazing how well their applications work for us as RV'ers, how easy they are to use, and the best part....they're FREE!
Thanks for sharing!

Last time I checked it out, Goog411 did not work in Canada. I just checked again, and now it does! Thanks Google!

Google will also provide directions via text messaging just send a text message to Google (466453) with the "From" and "To" in the body of the message (Orlando, FL to Ocala FL). The service is free, but if you don't have a text messaging plan you will be charged per text message, and most of the directions provided will be split into multiple text messages because of the limitations on text message size. Because I have a Family Plan including unlimited texting this is a great service for me ( I have a son in college, and texting is about the only way you can communicate with kids these days).

Goog is great, no doubt.
Question: in using the 411 feature of goog will that "free" service open your cell phone to marketing calls that goog could sell your cell number to? If it does, then it may not be "free"!
Does anyone know? Tks. Dennis

Dennis,
I have never heard of Google doing anything like that. They have a reputation to uphold, and so far for me, they have kept their promise.

simonsrf -robbie,
Tks for the reply. I agree on Google reputation issue. Going to the goog-411 site, they do spell out Privacy issues and it appears they do not sell their cell fone info. They do suggest, if necessary, that you can Block your caller ID from your cell and it will be honored.
I was never clear whether the Do Not Call order one can make on landlines applies to cell numbers as well, and didn't want to start getting junk calls on our cells. Tks. Dennis
