Battery Disconnect
Yesterday as I started my solar install I discovered that the cut-off switch doesn't cut off much. There is still power going to the slides and probably much more. Has anyone installed another battery disconnect switch by the batteries?

Yes, I have a couple in my solar install. One is right after the battery. Joe

Had a simple knife switch before installing solar. Now I've got only the landing gear and battery monitor hooked directly to the battery bank and the hot goes to a fused disconnect box.

Curious Walt why you have the landing gear connected to the batteries. The only thing I have going directly to the battery bank is my Trimetric.

Ours was a $50 fix for a totally different reason. I installed a marine switch so that I could completely isolate the batteries from the rig. There are several phantom drains (remote control board is the primary problem) that will drain a battery when the rig is unattended. I also added another battery since I have the rig stored (mini-storage lot) when not in use, and needed two sources since energizing the fridge before a trip will drain a battery in a day. Our switch enables me to have a reserve battery (just as in our boat - starting battery and house battery) and if I drain one, I can switch to the other, fire up on-board generator and charge the one that I have drained. This works for us, but may not be suitable for others. A blade (knife) switch will also allow you to isolate the battery(ies) from the phantom loads that are present on our rigs.
