Do you lock your camper?
Do lock your camper when you are camping?
We do not. We leave the doors closed, but unlocked. Why you ask? We camp with our 3 Golden Retrievers, and if anything should happen, I want the doors unlocked to others can have quick access to our pups.
How about you?

Yes we lock and don't travel with pets. I'll take some hits on this, but if I see a camper on fire I will not go into it to rescue any pets!

I would not enter either, but I would open the door to give them the opportunity to escape. My dogs know the way out.

When in our seasonal site in Florida, we never lock. Know all our neighbors, and we watch each other's rigs. When traveling, we do, unless we leave the dogs inside.

Yes, we lock ours. It is our home and contains our personal belongings. It is no different than our stick house which we locked as well. Yes, our pets can be inside if we choose not to take them with us when away. It comes down to what level of risk you are willing to assume. For us we figure that the risk of having a fire in our rig is significantly less than having an uninvited intruder come in through an unlocked door.

I'm the opposite of Lynwood. Raised in the Detroit area, I lock everything, period! It's a shame I feel that way, but we worked too hard for our stuff to risk someone else taking it.

If away for a extended time we will lock the camper. When on the road we will lock the camper. It is normally not locked most of the time. We do have a pet (bird) We do not expect anyone to risk there well being to rescue our pet nor would we risk ours to rescue one.

I'm with Tom. Grew up in South Chicago and worked in law enforcement at times. We not only lock, their not the original locks so even dealers don't have keys.

Have had $$ stolen from our rig, many many moons ago, while camping with our "camping club". Teenager did it. Created a lot of havoc for the club. Sad, but, true.
We lock. Dog(s) inside. Pray we never burn. If it happens, well, it will be a very sad day.

Absolutely lock doors if we go out of sight of our camper, no exceptions.

If we are going to be gone over night I will lock the door. But for just a few hours or when in CA during the tax season when at the office then don't . That said this CA park is gate guarded. I think the most important thing to do is turn off the water if gone over night. JMHO.

We lock, will miss the dog if something happens. Had a firearm stolen from first Montana by teenagers and he fired it at someone (in juvenile detention till he turns 21). In states that do not allow CCL, gun stays locked in 5er. Otherwise, it is with me. We do not lock normally at home on the mountain. Of course, we would hear someone coming from a mile away.

We always lock the RV unless we are walking around the park and can see it.

We do not. We believe if a fire occurred, someone would try the door to see if it was occupied. It's the only hope of saving our dogs if we are gone. If anyone tried to open the door without an emergency, our Mt Dog will scare them off. We have cameras and warning stickers. It's too easy to break in, therefore it's never locked accept when on the road or stored.

Hi
Because there are only a few different keys that fit the locks that Keystone installs we changed all our locks.
We installed a marine stainless lock commonly used on boats for the front door and the cargo compartment doors have a lock that takes a round key.
We do lock when we leave the trailer and are not going to be near it.
Just remember all this does is keep your insurance company happy. The doors and sides of the trailer are Easley breached with a fire ax. For this reason we post the “pet inside” sticker on the outside near the door.

We always lock our door, and for several reasons. Rames14 touched on the most important reason. If you have firearms inside your rig and leave your door unlocked, in some states you could be criminally prosecuted under certain circumstances. For example a 12 year old kid walks inside, finds your gun and shoots his buddy....in Illinois you could be prosecuted for allowing access to a loaded unsecured firearm.
We keep the door locked but the storage compartments unlocked.
