Microwave replacement
Hi all!
We have a 2010 3665RE and were wondering if anyone has replaced the std microwave with a convection microwave oven? If so what make/model did you choose?
Many thanks!

Many thanks for your response!
The only other question was whether the wall would support the additional weight. And If I ready your comment correctly, it does. I will measure it carefully and see what fits the space. Did you have to do anything special on the mounting?

Surprised it did not come with one. My 2007 came with a convection/microwave combo. Thought they all did.
You do need room around it for air flow. On mine the hot air comes out the rear. But it has a duct to move the hot air from the rear, over the top, and out the front decorative grill.

The weight of the microwave is being held by bolts that go through the bottom of the cabinet above the microwave. Our unit came with the frigidaire since it is a 2013. John

You can very easily change out your present micro with a new micro/convection oven. First thing you need is to confirm the size. Almost all popular new units are going to be 30" wide. If your micro is smaller, It will be harder to find a replacement.
The internet is a great source to pick out a new replacement. I chose a GE # 9179 as I wanted a better quality than the Frigidaire it replaced. Found it on sale for $425.
The install was pretty easy. Replaced the rear mounting plate with the new one which carries most of the weight. The bolts that attach it to the bottom of the cabinet had to be relocated as did the electric cord hole. And it aligned right up with the outside exhaust vent with some minor tweaking.
When you de-box the new unit, you may find you have to change the location of the fan outlet from the top to the rear on the micro, but that's easy, just follow the directions.
I strongly suggest you have a person helping you remove the old unit and setting the new unit as they are heavy and very bulky in tight quarters.
My unit is about a year old now and we love it. Everything works better and is of better quality than the old one. The exhaust fan is amazing as it is more powerful and much more quiet. And we are using the convection oven feature more often as it really works like it's supposed to!

I replaced mine with a convection/mw. The new unit was deeper than the original, so I had to add some framing to effectively make the shelf deeper. But it looks pretty good.
